So my bf and I didn't do much name research and every time I tried to it was just overwhelming. I casually mentioned Alexandra and he really liked it, and Michelle is my mn and has sentimental value. So we slowly just started saying that's the name.
But now that I've been telling people the name, I'm really unsure. People seem to like it, but everyone wants to call her Lexi (which is cute, but reminds me of Lexi Belle-porn star...not something I want to associate with my baby) and Alex (which is what it would be) seems insanely common lately. Probably more so with boys, but still. The only other name we even discussed was Audrey.
The main things we don't want are: 1. Something too popular
2. Something "unique" and spelled weird
3. Something that makes her last name less...awkward. Which, I'll have to just say so you understand, the poor girl will have the ln D*ck.
Am I just being weird since the date is getting close? I never had that moment where I just knew this was the right name. And it feels really weird to refer to her as Alex. And if anyone has any suggestions for something good I would love to hear them! I'm just pretty confused. TIA!

I agree I really dislike the nn Lexi. I think Audrey is much better.

There is no reason why she can't go by the full name rather than a nn you don't like. Sure, in the future she may prefer the nn Alex, but for now you can tell people her name isn't Alex. People have asked me if we are going to call our son Frankie and I've been telling them, no we prefer just Francis for now. I think if you do it respectfully, people will be respectful and honor your preference.
I think Alexandra Michelle is very pretty.
I think Alexandra Michelle is lovely, and I really hate third parties who think they can bestow nicknames on your children for you.
(I also hate Lexie as a nickname, but that's just me.)
If you do decide to nickname your daughter and not just call her Alexandra, there are a TON of options other than Alex and Lexie: Allie (
), Andie, Sandy, Sasha... the list goes on and on.
FWIW, we gave our daughter a name with a ton of nickname options for this very reason, and I HATE the most common nickname, but what we've been calling her isn't on any of the "nickname" lists for this name -- and I like it that way.
