wool dryer balls

How many of you use the wool dryer balls? Do they actually work better for static? If you used to use dryer sheets, do you notice a difference? How long are they good for? I am trying to decide if there is a reason to switch. I use dryer sheets in my clothes only, not my diapers.

    I went to a cloth diaper workshop and they told us that if you plan to dry your diapers in the dryer you can't use dryer sheets AT ALL in that dryer.  I don't know how true that is, but we are trying to stick to it.  I made some dryer balls and they seem to work OK - definitely not as good as sheets for static, but they aren't bad.  They are loud though.....so if your dryer is near a living area you may not like that....I can't dry things at night because DH thinks it's annoying.

    Yes, they do work better. I had to "refresh" mine (added more yarn and prepped them) and I noticed significantly more static without them.

    I hate dryer sheets, but DH uses them. I've finally made him stop, especially after telling him they'll ruin the CDs and reduce the flame retardant properties of DD's clothes.

    They're good for quite a while if you buy/make good quality felted ones. I didn't have the best yarn to make mine, hence my need to refresh them.

    I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering the same thing.  

    Plus another (maybe silly) question...I have been using dryer sheets since I bought my dryer about 2 years ago.  Is there a way to "prep" the dryer for drying CDs after using dryer sheets?  I mean, is there some special way to clean it or if I stop using dryer sheets now, will it be good to go by the time I'm CDing (in Feb sometime)?

    I am guessing if you stopped now it would be fine by then, but they told us at the class to either rub down the inside of the dryer with vinegar or to wash/dry a load of towels and they should get the residue off.

    I've read that running a load of wet towels through your dryer will remove any build up. HTH!

    I got wool dryer balls about 2 months ago and I really like them.  I bought them from Payley Knits and Crochet off etsy.  She said they are supposed to last for "years", I obviously don't know for sure, but mine are holding up good so far.
