Fussiness Question

This whole fussy baby thing is totally new for me! Freyja has never cried unless she was hungry before. For the last 24 hours, she keeps crying before, during, and after feedings. She is still on her normal feeding schedule, only with crying added to the mix. During her feedings she is eating like usual, but then starts crying out of nowhere. She sometimes pushes the bottle out of her mouth all upset but then wants it again and resumes normal eating. What does this mean? My first guess was gas, but I keep burping her and nothing happens. We use Dr. Brown's bottles for gas reduction and she has never been much of a burper. Heeeelp! I hate not being able to figure out what's upsetting her.

  • Is her tongue white?  My baby girl started doing that with Thrush.  It's a yeast infection and can be pretty painful for them.  If she's got white bumps on her tongue, cheeks or the roof of her mouth it is likely thrush.

Otherwise it might be gas.  My girl's started a little later than 2 weeks but it can be rough!

Oh, I didn't realize gas could start at around this time or later! I figured if she didn't have it from the start, she'd be good to go. Maybe I should try Mylicon?

Her tongue gets milk residue on it, but I clean it with a washcloth after feedings. I just asked her ped about it yesterday at her checkup, and she said it looked perfectly clean and that she didn't have Thrush. So that's out.

  • Another way to relieve her of gas pains is laying her on her back on the floor and moving her legs around as if she were riding a bicycle, then lifting her butt off of the floor slightly while holding her legs. She may start ripping them, so don't be alarmed! (This has happened with my LO, but as J+MS said, it could be colic or reflux; just bc she seemed fine before, sometimes it takes 2 or more weeks for these symptoms to surface.)

    Good luck

  • Could still be gas. I EBF'ed and R is a "thorough burper" but he still is too gassy. Maybe try Colic Calm, it's natural, relieves gas, indigestion and reflux... Might as well give it a try.

    just tinkled...

I think it sounds like reflux.  You should talk to the doctor about it.  Check out www.refluxrebels.com  A while back someone recommended that site-lots of great info.  Good luck
