Christmas Ornament Hooks - Safety Advice

It just occurred to me that the metal hooks that we use to hang our ornaments are a safety hazard. What are you using to hang ornaments this year? Any other Chrismas decorating hazards you have run into? They were so tiny last year but as toddlers it's a whole new ball game. Thanks!

  • We are using string and my mom gave us plastic ornaments.  I think she got them from Walmart.  I was worried about Keira breaking the regular ones.
  • We just decided to decorate from the middle up, where DD can't reach the ornaments. It seems to be working so far!
  • i got really thin ribbon at wal-mart - red and green - and hung everything with that.  we also put all non-breakables on the bottom half and our breakables on the top half.  although DS knows he's not supposed to touch the tree, his impulses get the best of him.  lucky for us, the only ornament he's obsessed with is this fabric-type frame with DH and I's wedding picture in it.  he's constantly taking it off the tree and walking around with it.  although we correct him and have him help us put it back, it's not such a big deal in the grand scheme of things since he can't mess it up!

  • Last year I found ribbon "hooks" at Lowes or Home Depot...basically a package with pre-done loops of ribbon.  They worked really well and were pretty cheap.
