Longies - can they be worn over anything aside from a fitted?
I've been using disposables on my guy overnight. I wouldn't call him a heavy wetter - he just moves around a ton and almost always ends up with leaks or wicking onto his pj pants at the waistband. I was thinking about getting some longies (sbish? any other recs?) but I don't have any fitteds and don't really want to delve into buying an whole 'nother "set" of diapers for him.
If I get some longies will they work over something like a BG Elemental or Thirsties Duo Diapers? Should I be concerned about the aplix on the Thirsties ruining the aplix?

I put longies over all sorts of diapers, not just fitteds. Above all, they are pants.
I don't have that many fitteds and I haven't been brave enough to use them outside of the house. I have a pair of SBish longies and they are amazing. They are so squishy and cozy. I just ordered 2 more and a soaker last night/today. I know they're pricey but they are really amazing. Plus, they hold their resale value really well so when LO outgrows them, you can recoup a lot of the money spent. There are cheaper options too (like repurposed wool from Etsy sellers).

I think it was only supposed to work until 11/30 but I just tried it and it still works!
ETA: Aplix would only be a problem if you had curling aplix. I've used my longies over BGs and Swaddlebees with no issues.
