question about NIP

I wound up EPing for 8 months with DS.   He had a tongue tie and I had inverted nipples so latching was a major issue.   I gave up pretty quickly and moved to EPing.   His tongue tie didn't get corrected until he was 2 months old and by that time, he was so used to bottles he refused the boob.

For #2,  I really want to try to actually BF.   If I need to, I'll EP again since it did work out for DS.   But it would be so much easier to just BF.

I'm pretty busty and when I was trying to BF, the football hold is what really worked best on my left boob...I think I was able to cradle hold on the right.  I'm worried that NIP is going to a bit of a challenge.   I plan on getting either a Moby or Sleepy Wrap so i'm wondering if any large chested ladies were able to NIP in one of these easily.

Re: question about NIP

  • I am large chested.  I just used a cover with DS when he was little.  He hates being covered now.  I bought an under cover momma.  It is a tank that clips onto your bra.  You just fold it down with the nursing bra.  No extra steps and your tummy is not exposed.  Then i pull my shirt down to right above his nose and nothing is exposed.

  • I'm also 'well-endowed' & I use an udder cover or NIP w/o anything. I sort of do the cross-cradle. Since ds is pretty big, I tend to fold one leg under me & rest him in my lap & hold my boob w/the hand of the side I'm nursing on. (if that all makes sense) I don't actually support his body with my other hand, which is nice for restaurants and such, I have a free hand.

& as far as being distracted, which he is a LOT nowadays, if he's really hungry he has no problem getting down to business under the cover. Sometimes I'll hold his hand with my free hand until he's focused.

  • practice in front of a mirror, I stopped using a cover because it was a hassle and people can't tell I was nursing anyways.

  • i'm not large chested, but wearing layers has worked really well. i wear a nursing tank or nursing bra+tank top, shirt over that, and a cardigan and you can't see any skin at all. the shirt just drapes over your boobs. you can practice in the mirror.

i have a moby but i personally don't feel it's that easy to nurse with it. i think a ring sling is a little easier to nurse with. good luck.
