I havent bought anything yet for my LO. We started to look at strollers but i feel SUPER overwhelmed. All the strollers that ladies on here are buying are like $600++ which seems out of budget to me especially when they grow out of them, and if you have a 2nd baby youll need a doubler.
With all the new things we will need i wonder what the average budget is? How much are you planning on spending on the following. I know im prying a little but im very curious. please feel free to ignore anything to personal......
Im sure family helps with some things.... you can list as -- family purchase but still list a price.
please only copy and paste the question part to save space on the replies....

Holy crap, what stroller did you get? (I completely understand getting a high-end one if you walk everywhere, that is not judgmental holy crap that is WOWZA what costs that much holy crap!)
Also, I covet the Tripp-trapp.

No, I have been SAH full time since DD was born in March 2007.
Second.
No. These two will be a little over 4 years apart.
Crib, dresser, upholstered glider & ottoman, changing table are all already purchased from when DD was a baby. We will buy bedding (about $300+).
Baby Jogger City Elite or Bumbleride Indie. I won't use a double and made a lot of bad cheap purchases on strollers with DD. This stroller will be a gift from my parents.
See above.
Graco something. We used Chicco with DD, we'll see.
No biggie. Will buy when needed with a coupon.
I'll buy one at consignment sales in the spring or new, again no biggie.
No. Though I won't go overly boyish or girly just because it isn't my taste.

I got the bugaboo chameleon, with most of the available accessories, but that was my high priority item. You can see I am spending significantly less most other places. Plus, all of that is still cheaper than a car and gas money.

May I ask why you won't get another Chicco? Just curious
I would say WE will end up spending about $1000, other things will be gotten by family and friends, but I'm planning on putting enough money away to spend $2000 just in case.
Sorry so long!!!
Are you planning on working after baby comes? No, its actually cheaper for me not to, and honestly with DH gone so much, having me home is a priority. Is this you first child? Yes
Are you planning on having more children within 3 years of your first? Yes
Furniture- (crib, changer, rocker, dresser, rugs bedding etc.) Eh, the glider/recliner I want is almost 700, but I want a Jenny Lind Crib (less than 200), so I'd say maybe 1200-1500ish all together after a dresser/changer and bedding?
Stroller- I got my travel system on sale for 218 with Tax (Score!)
running stroller (more portable) 200ish?
Carseat- The infant one came with my travel system. Parents are buying the convertible for Christmas. I think its around 150?
Highchair- We plan on getting one of the small ones that hooks on to the dining room chair to save space. So less than 100?
playpen/activity centers- Pack'n play; Mom paid 1/2 of this as part of our christmas. I got it on sale for 162 with tax, but I only paid about 80. I still want a jumper, bouncer, activity center and all that, but Im not buying any of it until after my shower. I'd say what I have left probably totals 200-300? MIL is also planning on buying some bigger stuff for Christmas as well.
Are you buying Gender Neutral (big items) Yes. Our Travel system and pack'n play are both rather neutral (light blue, brown, and tan polka dots. Graco Deco). We didn't want anything that screamed BOY or GIRL. The convertible car seat will be girly if LO is a girl, but that is because they are in those for so long, she would still be using it when LO #2 came along.
Im sure family helps with some things.... you can list as -- family purchase but still list a price.
Fortunately for us we have like 5 baby showers lined up already, so we probably won't have to go into our own pocket. Our church, my work, my sister, my cousin, friends... I will probably make a few of them diaper/ gift card parties ~ You can never have enough diapers!
We are definitely budgeters and look around for the BEST prices but still with great quality!
Most of these items, less the nursery furniture, we are registering for. However, we've prepared ourselves to go out and get whatever we need with our own cash.
really, it's up to you what you want to do and spend. i would love to have some super stylish things, it's always exciting, but once you realize they all get pooped on and thrown up on, the allure is sort of gone. b edding themes change, and about 4 months after we brought our son home, i wished we hadn't gone with a theme because then everything else had to be of the theme. we moved him to a toddler bed at 15 months and broke form the "theme".
(sorry this was so long)
Oh no reason. The Chicco was a fantastic car seat. Just depends on what we want to spend and all of that.

Generally speaking, you just need to decide what things are a priority for you and what things are not--there is no 'one size fits all' sort of thing here. We prioritized our stroller, but that's b/c we're out and about frequently and take daily walks--the nursery, where we didn't spend that much time except to sleep, wasn't that big of a deal to us. The opposite is certainly true of on another family. So don't feel the need to mimic what others are doing, or feel that you should be doing what others are doing--do what's right for you and your family. Period.
How old are you? 35, DH is 38
We are planning to purchase everything ourselves but I'm sure we will get a lot of it at our shower and from family.
For our first baby, we received a lot of the basics as gifts (highchair, PNP, bouncer, activity gym, crib & dresser / changing table). We purchased our infant carseat, stroller, crib mattress & bedding and did the nursery ourselves.
Furniture- (crib, changer, rocker, dresser, rugs bedding etc.)- dad will buy, probably spend about $400. If we were buying, we'd have to settle for a brand I wasn't happy about and we'd spend $200. Dad bought glider from 1st baby, idk the price but it was a Dutalier. Dresser was $500 from DS, but with this one we are using some old furniture we have.
Stroller- just paid $100 for a double Joovy on amazonrunning stroller (more portable) n/aCarseat- re-using DS's, but it was $100- Graco SnugrideHighchair-$40, going to get the space saver. we learned after DS when we had a full out Fisher Price bigazz high chair.playpen/activity centers- we got this at my showerAre you buying Gender Neutral (big items)- yes, everything we bought was gender neutral
Join our wiki and tell us what your baby eats for finger foods.
With the exception of the stroller, the carseat, and the furniture, we'll probably register for just about everything else.
How old are you? 31
Are you planning on working after baby comes? PT probably from home
Is this you first child? 2nd
Are you planning on having more children within 3 years of your first? This will be our last
Furniture- (crib, changer, rocker, dresser, rugs bedding etc.) We were given a crib and changer...we spent less than $1000 for the glider (biggest splurge but we went half with family), bedding, dresser, etc. We're moving DD to a toddler bed and baby will use the same nursery furniture plus new bedding.
Stroller: Still undecided if I'm getting a double. 1st time around we had Chicco Cortina travel system, I think it was less than $300. Then $100 on our umbrella that we've used since she was 6 mos. old.
running stroller (more portable) NA
Carseat: We bought our Britax Boulevard when she was 1 about $250. Our second seat is a Air Protect, we got it on sale for I think $125
Highchair: It was a gift, about $130. We'll be getting a different highchair this time, nothing expensive. but easier to clean
playpen/activity center: PNP we bought, not sure if we're replacing it or not. Bought playmat with a GC from my co workers. FP Rainforest, it's awesome.
Are you buying Gender Neutral (big items) We bought everything gender neutral, but we do have a purple bumbo-if we have a boy he's using the purple bumbo LOL
