Next week I will be flying with my 5 month old for the first time. Does anyone have any recommendations of must have's in my carry-on? He is ebf so I won't need bottles or anything. Suggestions of things I need to make sure I pack or suggestions in general? We will be gone for 4 days and I just want to make sure that I don't forget anything! Thanks for the help ladies!
Re: Suggestions on Flying w/ 5 Month old
I just flew two weeks ago with my 5 month old ebf baby, and this was the best advice I got: Nurse on takeoff! It will help with the pressure in their ears. His full belly coupled with the white noise on an airplane put him right to sleep for both flights.
I wanted to have lots of "resources" to pull out just in case he started screaming. He is such a happy baby, but I didn't know how he would do on a flight, but it went great! I brought along my diaper bag with a few toys, a teething ring that I pulled out of the freezer right before leaving for the airport so it was still cool on the plane, and I also brought a little bit of baby food and a spoon since we have just started trying some stage one foods.
The airlines will check your stroller, carseat, and carseat base for you free of charge, and you can bring your stroller all the way to your gate if you want to. Try not to stress because your LO can sense your worry! It will go great!
These are all good suggestions. We've flown w/DD twice and it hasn't been a big deal, travel light, bring a receiving blanket and change of clothes and you should be fine.
A couple general things: If you use a carrier, they make you take it off to go through security as well as on take off and landing. Kind of annoying, but the carrier is still worth it IMO. Also, this might sound gross, but DH and I changed DD's diaper at our seat on a travel changing pad while on the plane (wet only, for a long flight), it was much easier than trying to haul her and her stuff into the bathroom and I can't imagine there is a good changing space w/the plane moving and LO wiggling.
