I came over here this morning and noticed a couple posts that said the name Asher was too popular.
I picked that name out in 4th grade when I read the book the Giver. I waited my whole life to use it.....got the side eye from many many people when I told them we were using it, and now its popular? When the eff did that happen?!?
Re: I'm sad now
most likely from asher roth, you know... ' that party last night was awfully crazy, i wish we taped it...' i dunno. either way, i love the name. [:
after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!

I don't take one single minute for granted.
whoa.
you named your kid bama? that's my [real] name.
Thats good to hear, because I had no intention of giving him name that four other kids in his class would have.
From her ticker, I think Bama is her dog .... just guessing.
I dont think Asher is that popular. I know of one other kid named Asher and they were born just this year.
Don't be sad about it, especially since you have had it picked out since the 4th grade....

I would still use it.
Some people's perception of "too popular" is a little extreme to me---but to be fair, it might be really popular in their area. If it's not in yours, don't sweat it. Asher is a great name!
I named my son Asher in 2007 and have only come across one other Asher even remotely close to his age in the past 3 years.
I think Asher is the best name I could have picked. I absolutely love it and am having a hard time picking a second boys name to live up to it.
It was 165 last year. I would say anything that is not in the top 100 is not considered popular.
I say go for it! I get compliments on my sons name all the time. And alot of people comment how unusual it is. Most don't even know it is biblical (Asher was one of Jacob's sons).
I hope this helps!
Yes I already used it : ) And I love it....and it totally fits him. I just had an oh crap moment when I thought it was getting popular, because I really want my kids to be the only one in their class with that name. My sister is named Michelle and she always had two other Michelles in her class. I never had another Holly.
You know how I feel about Asher
And I adore the name.
It's not popular but I think it's a "stylish" choice, if you know what I mean. People are looking for under-used, classic names... and Asher fits that profile since it's a strong biblical name. It also has a cute nickname "Ash".
It was between Asher and Connor when we were naming our son. It's a fantastic name, but I certainly don't think you'll have other kids in his class with the same name.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

1. I love The Giver and there are some great names in that book (Jonas, Lily, Gabriel, Fiona).
2. I have yet to meet an Asher. I really don't think it's that popular.
I don't think its too popular. Its trendy, but not overly popular.
Trendy isn't always a bad thing
Ahhh Moo I know you love Asher Ben! That said, have you thought of a name for the third Moo Baby? Its gotta be good to go with the other two!
This.
Holy cow, lady, if you chose it in the fourth grade, why change your mind now??? I chose Anne for my daughter when I was a girl, but ended up naming her Anna. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like myself if I chose a different name!
Besides, Asher was only #165 in 2009. If you ask me, that's not very popular at all! My daughter's name was #23 when she was born in 2006 and I honestly haven't come across a single child her age with that name.
Go with Asher!
