Who's making Xmas decorating easier?

DH and I usually cut a tree and yes I am over the top and I have a fake one in another room...... =) Well, this year with baby on the way, I didn't want to take the chance of DH not having time to cut one this year so I'm taking the easy road out and put our fake one in our great room. I think DH is a little upset but I want to bring baby home to a tree and I don't want to think of the clean up of a real one once she's home. This is usually my job anyway. Also, I'll put some of my things up but probably not everything since I gotta take it all down at the end.....again my job.....

Anyone else doing less decorating this year?

Re: Who's making Xmas decorating easier?

  • We're not decorating at all.  I figured since we're not going to be here for Christmas I'm not going to bother this year.  Something tells me I'm not going to be in the mood to want to put everything away.

We are just doing stockings, no tree, no lights. I'm okay with it because there is no way I want to pack up xmas decorations while recovering from delivery and battling sleep deprivation. If LO comes a little early and we end up with her for xmas I'll go to my parents house to do pictures in front of the tree, and just do some pictures in front of the fireplace with stockings at our house. I will miss the tree a little bit but just thinking about all the work to pack everything back up makes me want to take a nap.

this is me, exactly.  I'll just revel extra in everybody else's decorations this year and over do it next year :)

Yeah next year will be awesome, lots of celebrating; first birthdays, probably first Christmas, pictures with Santa (!!!) not to mention Christmas outfits for Santa pictures and Christmas day and I will have had all year to prepare for exactly how I want to drive DH crazy with all the new traditions I'll want to start for LO.

omg is it bad that I almost started an actual list?  so far I'm thinking popcorn and cranberry string (I do that every year, anyway), gingerbread house, Christmas pajamas, stockings on Christmas Eve... honestly I never really considered pictures with Santa because I never did that when I was little and I never really missed it.  I guess when he's old enough to understand and if he asks to go I'd take him.. but I'll have enough traditions to keep us busy :)

  • The only thing we aren't doing is the outside decorating.  We still put up our tree and indoor decorations (although I did make us decorate before Thanksgiving in case this baby came early).  I don't know who will pack up decorations after Christmas but if I don't feel up to it, DH can certainly handle it.

  • We got a real tree (as we do every year).  As soon as we brought it home, I started to regret it.  I forgot how much I'll be sweeping and vacuuming because of it.  Plus, our cat likes to climb the tree.  He knocked it over within 5 minutes of us bringing it home (of course, I had just filled up the stand with water, sending it spilling all over).
  • We have a tiny house, so it's never much. We decorated at the weekend as well - DS was super excited. We did compromise though and got a fake (small) tree, as I didn't want to worry about needles with a baby, and H didn't want ot worry about the fire hazard with the tree being up so long.

  • Not I. Our house is fully decked and I love love love it. I love decorating for Christmas way too much, that I would have been really sad had we (well, I) not done it.

Now...when the decorations will come down is a whoooooooole other story. I fear we'll still be singing O Christmas Tree around Valentine's day. ;)

  • Yes. I usually wrap all the wall hangings to look like presents with bows and everything and I hand cut snowflakes and hang them in all the windows. I didn't do that this year. I also usually add to the displays every year, but I have not bought anything new this year.

  • We put our tree up and decorated. I don't have much as far as decorations around the house, so it took me about 30 minutes to decorate the rest of the house. DH put up the outside stuff, which consists of garland around the door and two light up snowmen. When it's time to take everything down, my mom will be here to help.

  • I've not had anything but my ornaments for 2 years now (all my stuff is packed away in storage in FLorida) so this year I forced myself to buy a couple boxes of lights and put them outside. I put them up (I live in a small apartment, so it wasn't alot) but my belly broke through the screen door...lol
  • We did our usual amount of decorating - we did it all on Sunday.  As we were hanging the ornaments, I was thinking of how torturous it's probably going to be to take the ornaments down and repackage them once Annabelle is here (three big boxes of Hallmark ornaments that we keep in the original packaging - I'm wondering how bad it would be to just stuff them all in Ziplock bags this year, lol).

  • We put up the tree and I finally got it decorated last night, though I left a BUNCH of ornaments off.  I basically did the glass ornaments and a few sentimental ones.

We won't do any other decorating except putting candles in the windows (they have timers, so once you set them, they go on and off by themselves all season) and two little lighted trees outside our door.  That's it.  Nothing else.

  • I am sort of doing less this year.  I put up a fake tree instead of a live one because of the fire hazard since we're putting it up so early and may not be home for a few days while in the hospital.

I also didn't put lights up anywhere but the tree, usually I put them in our window boxes and weave them through garland on the stairs and all of that stuff but I can't really bend over to plug them in so I figured it wasn't worth it.

I will really go nuts next year, I'm sure!

  • Meh. We're mostly doing the same thing, just in a different way. We usually put it all up in one day. With the baby, this is less likely to happen, so we are spreading the decorating ordeal out over the entire week. : )
