C-Section Moms...

Did anyone have problems with their incision healing?  I went last week to have my staples removed, and today when I went back to the doctor she poked at my incision and blood came out.  I didn't have that happen at all at home.  I thought it might be getting red (the incision), but DH looked and told me it was fine (he's a nurse).  It turns out that there was fluid collecting underneath, and I have to have the wound packed every day for a week.  Has this happened to anyone else?

  • I didn't run in to this.  Like pp, I had the internal stitches and they have healed nicely.  However, with both of my sil's children her wound healed from the outside in, which I guess is not what you want, so they had to pack her wound for upwards of a month.  I know it was incredibly painful and she actually had to have her wound reopened and things like that during her healing process.  I hope that yours heals much quicker, and that you don't have a lot of pain to boot!  Sorry you are having to deal with this!

  • This happened to my sister.

Her incision opened almost all the way (no clue how but it did - she has major healing issues with any type of surgery) and she had to pack it for about 2 or 3 weeks.

It did eventually heal but, her incision is not pretty at all.  Not that any incision is pretty - but hers is just much thicker than it should be and isn't a clean cut.

    Good luck!

  • With DD1, I had staples and at my 1 week check up, was fine and had no issues. This time, with DD1, I got stitches, the internal ones, and at my 1 week check up, the Dr noticed a small section on the end was healing, but open, so he gave me two stitches in the office. I went back 1 week after that, and he said he was leaving them in and to come back in 1 more week. I go in tomorrow, and from what I can tell, it still looks like it is having a hard time healing. Mind you, I do have a toddler to run after, so I may not be giving my body 100% attention to healing, but I am trying. It just seems to have a harder time healing this time around.
  • My incision healed fine, but I had a bad reaction to the steri strips and somehow managed a skin yeast infection. Super gross and not fun!

  • I'm still waiting for mine to heal. I had a bleed I noticed right before leaving the hospital. My Ob took out 2 staples while I was still there and it drained for a day. They ended up letting me go home but for 2 weeks I had to go into my Obs to have it cleaned every day. Its slowly healing and I've had to go in to the office less and less. Right now I only have 2 millimeters on the left side waiting to heal. Mine has never been packed but from what I've found out that is very common.

Now that I'm 11 weeks out and still not healed I wish I would've been more proactive about my options. I should've asked to be seen at a wound care center. There are a few different gadgets used for healing these sorts of wounds. My scar is now going to be very uneven and pulled in on one side.

Hopefully yours heals fast but from what I've read once its open they have to let it heal from the inside out...and that takes time. Also watch it like a hawk for infection...I'm sure your hubby already knows that =) Sorry you are going through this! Letting it get air helps with the healing too...I've been drying it with a hairdryer on cool after showers.

  • I did not but my OBGYN glued me shut! I didnt have staples at all hope youre better soon!
