2 weeks ago they said..no he doesn't have reflux its just colic (i still think he has reflux)....so i listened and am just trying to deal with it. When family was visiting they noticed his fussiness, excessive spitting up (almost every time i burp which is each ounce at every feeding and also in between feedings), and mucus in spit up....they all told me to add rice cereal which i know you shouldn't do. So when reading the similac site today they said they have a spit up formula for babies who spit up 5 or more times a day....5 times a day?!?!?! is that how much babies are SUPPOSED to spit up? cause if so then Eli is like 5 times in a feeding!!!!
nurse told me over the phone i'm OVER feeding doing 5oz at every 4 hours. But he drains his 5oz bottle each time! I had been told before that you should make an oz more than they eat so that they fill up but if i were to fill the bottle i'm sure he would eat all of it.
they want to see him again today even though 2 weeks ago they said he's healthy and its just colic...grrr
thoughts ladies?
Re: taking lo to doc& how much spit up is "normal"?
Poor little guy, hope he gets better soon! Is it just a little bit of spit up each time or projectile? Because DD spits up at about every feeding, but it's just a little bit and it's not usually the projectile kind that shoots out a ton. She also has mucus in hers, but I figured that was from her sinuses draining and her swallowing it and then coming up when she spits up.
If your doc is concerned about over feeding you could try a binky, he might just want to suck. Maybe he's spitting up because he's getting too much. GL!
Your LO sounds a lot like my guy. He was eating 43 ounces a day at 7 weeks. I called the doctor because that seemed like a lot to me and they agreed and told me to add rice cereal. He went from eating every hour to every 2-3 hours.
But I think if your LO is making it 4 hours you are ok. Have you tried gas drops? We just started using Mylicon and it works wonders.

Funny I was just about to post a message about my son spitting up. He is spitting up excessively at least two or three times after every feeding. I burp him after every two ounces of milk/formula. I breast feed and formula feed. He spits up quite a bit sometimes a couple teaspoons at a time and its concerning. He has a doctor's appt on Friday but I was wondering if I shouldn't try to get him in sooner? He's on Enfamil Newborn formula then of course breastmilk as well. I do use Gripe Water and some natural gas drops. Not sure if either are working, though he doesn't get the painful gas anymore. Only spitting up and fussing.
I have not tried the Similac for spit up although I do have a canister of the Similac for fussiness and gas.
My Eli was the same way. He was miserable, fussy and spitting up 5-10 times after each feeding. I took him to the doctor around one month and he told us he definitely had AR- even though he was gaining weight and was a BIG baby as well. I would be persistent with the doctors if you feel something is up. We got him on Axid for the reflux which helped with his fussiness tremendously. He takes rice cereal in his bottles to help keep down the formula better and that helps as well. He still spits up but not nearly as much. We use Enfamil Gentlease which was the only thing that worked- nothing Similac helped at all.
Hang in there and be persistent with your doctor. He sounds like your LO could have AR.
