Swaddling.....

....am I the only mom who feels bad restricting baby's arms?  Is it really ok to wrap them up so tight they can't use their arms?

 

My son is 4 weeks old and to this day I feel bad wrapping up his arms and en up not swaddling him at all.  I know its the best to help him sleep and am considering the miracle blanket, but I keep refraining from doing so because of his arms.  Call me nuts...LOL

    When I do it I pull his arms up before wrapping so he has full use of them.  He likes to throw his arms over his head anyway when he sleeps.

    I feel so bad doing it too!

    ....and the only way he wants to be swaddled is to have his legs pretty much indian style and folded up almost against his stomach.  I can't bare to swaddle him like that...I let DH do it.

    I guess he was like that in the womb..but still....lol

    We always swaddle wth at least one hand free per the rec of the l&d nurses so baby can self soothe at night.

    We swaddled both of our sons, and I never felt bad about restricting their arms.  It's very natural to recreate the snugness of being in the womb, for the first few months.  It really does help with the startle reflex and help calm and soothe LO.  I'm a fan of swaddling, and personally love Halo Sleepsack Swaddles.  Super easy to use and allowed his legs some room to kick around a bit.  I don't think you are nuts for feeling the way you do, and you have to be comfortable with it, but it is very natural to swaddle.  You could always try a regular sleepsack instead.

    I don't feel bad but my husband and parents do.  LO hates being swaddled but once she calms down it helps her sleep so much better.
