Babies: 0 - 3 Months

every 2 hrs without fail...

At night, DS is still eating every 2 hrs, no exceptions. I have to hold him til he's pretty knocked out or else he'll wake up when I put him down (usually doesn't let me put him down) so I'm getting maybe 30 mins of sleep at a time, if even that, all night long. DH doesn't help me since I'm EBF and I'm seriously gonna lose it. I'm so tired and he doesn't sleep! During the day he does 3 hrs, almost 4 between feedings, and I of course am never tired when he does. I thought this should be getting better at night soon...... Super stressed

Re: every 2 hrs without fail...

  • DS was the exact same way a few weeks ago. Someone suggested waking him up every two hours during the day and feeding him, which has really helped. He has actually started waking himself up now every two hours, which makes running errands a little difficult, but on the plus side he is practically sleeping through the night now!

  • I'm in a very similar situation. DS has been feeding every two hours for nearly two weeks now and yes it's exhausting as I'm EBF...not pumping, though I'm considering it so DH can do a feeding during the night. Luckily *most* times DS is sleepy enough during those feedings he falls right asleep but there is still that rocking period after that I have to make sure he is conked out enough before I put him back down. However, I still feed him two hours during the day as well. I say, force yourself to nap. You have to do it if it's stressing you out unfortunately...or pump so your husband can help out at night.

  • sounds like your baby is going through a growth spurt, babies tend to like to nurse at night because your milk is flowing good at night and of course it is very comforting to sleep cuddled up next to mom, have you considered co-sleeping this is the only way I could have got more than 1 hour the first 4 months! you can put the crib right next to your bed and so it is easier to get baby when he awakes, and you can doze while he nurses!

  • Sounds like a day/night confusion to me.  This is the opposite of my LO's schedule.  I'd try keeping him up during the day.  Yes, wake him :)

  • Julian was like that for a while at night but I noticed if I made his day feedings very strict and predictable, 4oz every 2hrs and a 5oz last bottle, then he slept for longer stretches at night. I usually give him the 5oz bottle btwn 11pm-midnight and he wont wake for the next one till bwtn 345-4am and then around 7am and then around 11am. Once I give him that last bottle at around 11, then I put him back on the two hr schedule.

Usually I'm a night owl, i dont go to bed till around 2am and then I only get up when he wakes me up, feed him, and then go right back to sleep. So based on his schedule, Im getting about 8-10 hrs a sleep each night. Idk if that schedule would work for everyone though, I'm a stay-at-home mom.
