? from 3rd tri - Pampers sizing

I'm a FTM, so forgive me if this sounds ignorant, but just curious about diaper sizing....  Has anyone used the size 1-2 Pampers diapers?  They say they are good up to 15 lbs, but do they fit too big/too small/not at all, or do they work?  Just wondering if I really just need to buy straight 1's or straight 2's while I try to stock up on my diaper collection before my little guy arrives!  TIA!

Re: ? from 3rd tri - Pampers sizing

  • I would recommend not stocking up on any one particular diaper.. just in case they don't work for your baby. N started out in Pampers Swaddlers Newborn.. and wore those the first 4-5 weeks. (He was 6.7 lbs at birth.. at one month he was 8 lbs) He has been/is still wearing the size 1s now in the Pampers Swaddlers.. they say they go up to 14lbs. At his 3 month appointment he was over 12 lbs.. He is winding down on this last pack of 1s, and we've already bought size 2s. I'm guessing he's probably around 13 lbs now. The size 2s are definitely more roomy than the size 1s, but they look way more comfortable on him.

  • I agree about not stocking up.  It took us a while to find our favorite diapers.

Pampers gave K a bit of a rash (and that is what I stocked up on and ended up giving away) and she peed through the regular Huggies.  Huggies Pure and Natural are the only ones that work for us.

And, as far as sizing goes - it really varies by brand.  Huggies have more of a shape and fit very different that Pampers (which are boxy and run BIG).

  • Thanks for the info! Big Smile

I have small packages of a variety of brands/sizes, but I saw a good sale on the large boxes of the Pampers size 1-2.  Just didn't want to buy them if they weren't all they're said to be.

  • LO just moved from NB to size 1, I have some 1-2's also but they swallow her (she's 9lbs).

  • We're CDing, but my daughter wore Pampers Newborn in the hospital. She was 5 pounds 15 ounces and 19 inches long, so very small! They fit great, though.

  • I would not stock up on any particular diapers. I stocked up on cases of Pampers, because thats all my daughter wore. Cody leaked through Pampers, and only Huggies Little Snugglers are working. So yesterday I had to take many cases of diapers back to Target and exchange for Huggies.

  • My son was in Preemies when he was born even though he was 7lbs. He was so long but super skinny so other ones would fall off. And he's 2 months now, 10 lbs, and still swimming in 1s. So we still use NB. I would say just getting one small pack and seeing. Plus the hospital will likely have different sizes so if you are having your LO at the hospital, you will get to find out there and then can get some according to that on your way home. Or have the DH do it for you.

  • Yeah, you'll probably want to wait.  You'll never know which diaper you like until the baby arrives.  Also, you never know how long he'll need a particular size (you don't want too many).  My little guy is 3.5 months and already wears size 3!

  • If it's a good sale, I say buy them and then try a smaller package of Pampers first before you open the big box. After DS out grew the newborn size, I used a small package of size 1 then went right into the 1-2. They were a little big at first but not too big he couldn't wear them.
