Trying to Get Pregnant

Blood Tests

I have read some conflicting information on this, but can you find out if you are pregnant sooner by getting a blood test done rather than a urine at home test? Some sources say yes, some say no. Anyone really know or been told by a health professional? Thanks!

Re: Blood Tests

  • I believe once you get a +HPT, then you call the Dr and set up an appt.   don't waste the dr time by asking for a blood test if nothing is wrong, or just wanted to find out sooner.

  • I have reasons to find out as soon as possible. I work with chemicals that I could not be around and would need alternate duties soon after finding out, I also take radiographs and cannot be around those either if I find out that I actually am pregnant(or not). I have a lot of occupational risk that a pregnant woman cannot be exposed to.

  • You might find out a couple of days sooner, but you really should have a reason for a blood test in my opinion, or you're just wasting the doctor's time. There's no reason to busy up a doctor's time when you can wait a day or two and test at home. It's like going to a doctor because you have the sniffles... I'm sure he/she wouldn't appreciate it, and I'm sure those waiting in the waiting room behind you wouldn't either.

  • I work in the health care profession, and any time a patient has ANY concern, no matter how trivial, it is worth my time and the doctor's time, and I would hope that most healthcare workers feel the same way, otherwise they are in the wrong profession to be taking care of people.
