Though Canada isn't taken seriously as a country, we still have a leader and his name is Stephen Harper. And just like Obama, people just call him Harper. This is Harper.
I cant see the pictures but i'll google him in a second. This goes brilliantly with my Harper: Girl or Boy name thread i posted yesterday. (I'm having a boy and wanted it!)
Are people actually shocked Harper is a last name?
I think a lot of people think "Harper Lee" and think "Girls name!" But... in the South, wasn't/isn't it popular to give your kids you maiden name as a first name? Usually the boys, but girls too? I think that's how Reese Witherspoon got her name.

This. It's why Harper was my first choice for a girl, but DH has since waivered on it. TKAMB is my favorite book, clearly (points to pooch in siggy).

I never understood this name. Its not pretty or feminine sounding, and it literally means "a person who dwells on a subject tirelessly and monotonously" (Read: Nag). Maybe I should start calling my MIL Harper
I possibly dislike Stephen Harper more than any other person in BC. (If I saw him at a starbucks I would seriously consider punching him in the throat).
I still think Harper is a pretty name for a girl.
This post bothered me, and I can't quite figure out why.

It was tongue in cheek...
Were you able to see the pics? I find it's hit and miss for them working from comp.
No. But I think a lot of Canadians are blown away that people would want to use it as a first name for little girls.
It's not just Canadians
I know, I know.
Nope, couldn't see the pics. But my work network blocks photos often, so I will check at home.

Yes!
Harper Lee's first name wasn't* even Harper, it was Nelle.
ETA: *isn't. She is still alive.
I still think it's a great name, and was our "girl name" for Bean. Alas, Bean is a boy, so notsomuch.
Since it has gotten so popular recently, I doubt we'll use it for a girl in the future.
