PSA: Don't apply emergency brake in below freezing temps

I know you are not supposed to engage it in lots of rain because it can get stuck on but I never thought about it freezing on, until this morning.  All set to leave for work, go to back up nothing.  Brakes totally stuck on.  Called my Dad to ask him how to unstick them, you have to go forward, good thing I left room before the fence, tried going forward nothing, finally after about 20 min of back and fourth ( forward then reverse) it finally broke free.  You can bet I won't be setting the e brake until the weather warms up.

    We have to because our driveway is at an incline, but I never knew that the brakes could get stuck because of it.

    I hadn't heard of this either. Guess I am thankful for a garage to park in. I remember many winters without, and it sucked.

    Also so thankful for a garage. It should be mandatory in colder climates. I knew this but forgot it. Thanks for the reminder.

    This is good to know. I left mine on last night and it didn't get stuck thankfully! We had a windchill of -7 last night so I won't be leaving it on today or tonight!

    DH just told me this was true, I didn't know that.  But I am baaad I never ever use my emergency brake....LOL.  We also park in the garage and boy am I thankful!

    I always use my emergency brake, luckily for me its never gotten stuck. I think it comes from learning to drive from someone who constantly would forget to put the car in park so I just always put the brake on or the car wouldn't be where I left it.
