? about transition from FT to PT work

I just found out I will be able to job share and work 3 days a week--any opinions/suggestions on which days to work?   thanks!

Re: ? about transition from FT to PT work

  • I went from FT to PT a month ago and I now only work M-W.  I thought it would be better to do MWF at first but I like it this way.  I can get my work out of the way the first half of the week and I get a 4 day weekend every week! GL!

  • I'm starting PT work in January (I am SAHM now) and it will be M-W-F for 5 hrs each day. That's what they want and I'll see how it works. If I need a Friday off once in a while I'm sure they will be cool with M-W-T that week.

  • I switched to PT and work M-W-F. I'd have a tough time being out multiple days in a row. Plus it totally breaks up the week. I really love my schedule.
  • I work Tues - Thurs so that I can have a 4 day weekend every week.

  • I work 4 days a week and I have Wednesdays off.  The downside to splitting up your week like that is that it's hard to pick up on Thursday right where you left off.  You lose momentum.  The benefit is that it's easier to get through the week (because I only ever work 2 days in a row), and I think I appreciate that day off more than if I just had a 3 day week every week.  Hard to say which is better!

  • i am a job share - we can't work the same days so we had to work it out together how we'd split it.

My job share works every Mon/Tues... I work every Th/Fri and we go back and forth working Wed's.  it works out great.

I prefer to work 3 days in a row so the kids have some consistancy- and it's nice so if we want to take a long weekend vacation- i don't have to take off at all.

I LOVE it and still can't believe I have this (it was my dream for so long)... but it is NOT easy.  I am more stressed about work now b/c i have to fit in a full week of admin work (emails, reports, etc) into 2 or 3 working days... it's pretty much impossible to get work done when i have the kids home- and i really try NOT to do work on my days off anyway - b/c that's the whole reason I went to PT - to have days OFF with the kids- not working.

It's hard to flip back and forth between mommy mode for 4-5 days suddenly to work mode for 2-3 days.... but I manage.

it's difficult when planning meetings that both my job share partner and i have to be at - but we work it out.

  • When I worked PT I worked Tues-Wed-Thurs and it was absolutely PERFECT. I loved having all of my workdays in a row, it was easier on both me and the girls to stay in a routine - and you can't beat having a 4-day weekend every weekend. Never having to work a Monday was great, I used it for errands and catching up on household stuff, and then we spent Fridays doing fun stuff.  Ahh, I miss working PT...
