Am I the only one that dresses DD in smocked clothing?

I keep seeing all of these posts to pick holiday clothing and I full on expect to see some smocked outfits, but never do. Am I the only one that dresses DD in smocked outfits?

  • I do, I love smocking. I know Nolebride shares my love of smocking and her son has some cute outfits. I think of it more for summer dresses though since it's easier to smock lighter fabrics.

  • I absolutely love smocking...although I think it is really hard to find.  My favorite outfit for DD right now is a smocked jumper.  It is so adorable.

  • I love smocking but have trouble finding affordable dresses.

  • I have nothing against smocked clothing but it's not something I gravitate towards. My dad did get DD a really cute smocked jumper outfit and I was sad that she didn't get to wear it much (wrong season).

  • I have no farking clue what "smocked/smocking" is.

  • I didn't even know what it was until I just looked it up.  Not a fan. So, no, I wouldn't.
  • Off to Google "Smocking"  brb

ETA....Oh I see.  We have a couple smocked dresses.

    What is smocking?

This is DD's smocked Christmas romper.

    Here are her dresses.

Smocking is when you take tiny folds of the material and hand stitch designs and shapes. It is all hand done so it can be expensive, but they're kind of like heirlooms. You keep them forever. I still have my baby smocked dresses.

  • Maternity clothes for babies! LOL, no not a fan.
  • I loved smocked dresses and DD's Christmas dress is actually a smocked one.  It's red and white gingham with gingerbread men smocked at the top!  I especially love it because I can't stand the feel of velvet and I feel like holiday dresses are all velvet!

  • Ah got it. Not a fan.

But if you like it, go for it!

I NEED to know where you got this - and if it comes in orange! This is my fav smocked dress the girls have - they have several (including the one for this Christmas).

  • It seems H is a little too boyish for smocked clothing (IMO), but I cannot wait to have a girl.  I have smocked dresses from when I was a baby and from when my mom was a baby.  I can't wait for her to wear them.

Do you ever look at Zulily.com?  They had some adorable smocked dresses the other day.  I meant to tell you, but I forgot.

I will have to check it out!

  • I don't have any smocked dresses for DD, but I don't think I have ever seen any for sale.  Where do you buy them?
  • DH wouln't talk to me if I buy something like that to DD. LOL

It's not our style anyway, I prefer more simple/modern dresses

this! looks "pilgrim" old American frontier or something to me but its cute... just not my style

www.dbjcharleston.com - I always buy from the clearance section for the next season. They also sell them here in Belk & Dillards.

  • Some of those are okay, but overall, it's NMS.

I would describe it as classic, but pilgrim works too I suppose!

    Mostly at specialty children's boutiques.

  • I think they are pretty adorable on girls (and more comfortable for dress up than the polyester/chiffon/stiff velvet stuff you see at Target) but not my style for DS. Maybe if I have a girl one day I will invest in a couple.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

Me too. MIL keeps trying to buy smoked stuff for DS and it always looks too girly for my taste. Since we are done with two, I will never get the chance to buy smocked dresses for a sweet little girl. Sad

Oh my goodness!  Where did you get the Clemson smocked dress??  I LOVE it and DD must have one!

  • My Mom used to put me in that stuff, so it totally reminds me of the 70's.  I don't mind it on girls, but on boys I think it looks ridiculous. No offense.

  • DS has one Easter romper that was smocked and DH said it looked like he was wearing a boy dress.  I have some smocked dresses from when I was a baby but I don't think I'd buy any more if I had a girl.  They look dated to me.  We aren't very fancy people though.
  • NMS, although my MIL wishes it was!

  • I like smocking (for girls only) when it is around the chest or a shoulder detail etc...I really dislike the rounded collar style smocked necklines.

  • Sorry, I think it looks old fashioned and NMS at all.
  • My mom used to hand smock my dresses when I was little. They were beautiful. Those are in storage with no little girl to wear them.

Our flowergirl wore a smocked dress. It was so nice and classy. So much different then the chiffon monstrosities most flowergirls wear.
