My DD has something like this and she LOVES it. I want to get her a few more. She's definitely into the jigsaw puzzles now and she surprises me with how good she is at doing them.
DD loves to do puzzles! A few months ago I bought her a bunch of Crazy Critters Puzzles (Mega Puzzles) from Walmart. They have 25 peices and were about $2 each I think. They are perfect for her....challenging, but she can do them pretty much without assistance. HTH!
Re: What puzzles should I buy for a 2 1/2 yo? I'm stuck.
Here are a few that my 2.5 year old loves:

He just did this one right next to me:

And we have a lot of these 12 piece puzzles. DS is able to do them by himself now. They have them at Target too.

And we have two alphabet puzzles that he works on daily.
