Hi,
I have a 3 wk old baby and just starting to look into baby carriers. DH has an Ergo carrier which he loves but I am petite (5'0) so I find it too bulky for me. I also have a Moby wrap but all the wrapping is too much for me. I am looking to find a quick and easy carrier to use for everyday when I am at home. What do you think of Beco Gemini? Also, do you recommend a website where I can get it for a good deal?
TIA!
Re: Beco Gemini for a new mom?
Personally, I didn't like the Beco Gemini but my opinion may be a little one-sided because it was the first SSC I tried. I rented one for two weeks because I was really looking forward to getting this one for Christmas from DH. I wore it everyday for those two weeks and found that my little 15 lb. 5 month old was still kind of tiny for this. The straps came up to her eyes and she was frustrated that she couldn't look out easily. I could have turned her forward facing and flipped the front flap down to make it easier for her to view the world but I don't like wearing her forward.
I wasn't comfortable wearing her backwards either. She didn't feel very secure. Then again, I may have felt this way because this was my first try at an SSC. I went to Heavenly Hold dot com to "rent" it for two weeks. It's worth a try to check it out before you buy.

I didn't even know you can rent to try it out. I'll definitely do this. Thanks so much!
I love my Gemini, but like PP I agree that it is for bigger babies. I didn't get mine until DD was 4 months but at that time it was perfect. She sits even better in it now and I have this 'theory' that she sat up so early (5 months) because I carry her in it a lot. The problem is that babies grow SO MUCH before 6 months and what is good at 2 months is useless at 4 months. I found that clipping in the 'seat' until 5 months was necessary but made a great versatile carrier.
Btw, can't you sit her in it with the top flap down? DD can look out (and has always been able to) easily. But now that I think of it, she is in the 95th % for hight.
Good luck finding a good carrier.
I am petite too (4'10") and found the gemini didn't fit me very well. The straps didn't tighten enough and the padding was bulky. I like the beco butterfly better. It has the infant insert so you can use it right away. Just keep in mind that any supportive SSC will be somewhat bulky.
If you like the moby but hate the wrapping, you could look into a my baby nest. That was my favorite when DD was an infant and I still use it a lot.
