Are we going to have to deal with "oh like Sarah Palin's kid" every time we tell people our babies name?
We chose the name Piper b/c we are both of English decent, and we wanted something uncommon but not unusual. We LOVE the name, but yesterday at Target some lady asked me what we were naming our baby and when I said Piper she immediately associated it with Sarah Palin.
I seem to think that by the time she is in grade school, no one will care about Sarah Palin anymore...
What do you ladies think?
Re: Sarah Palin's Alaska has me thinking...
I seriously effing hope that this is true.
Piper is a nice name and I didn't realize it was Palin's daughter's name...although I try to block out as much information about that woman as I possibly can so I could definitely be in the minority.
I think if you had chosen Bristol, then yes, but not Piper. Some people will make the association, but for the most part I think you'll be ok.
If it makes you feel any better, my name is Hillary and all of my grade school teachers associated me with Hillary Clinton, even though I was clearly born long before she became the first lady. As the novelty wore off in a few years it wasn't even something people mentioned anymore.
Ha. I don't care about her now. So, hopefully by the time our kids hit school she'll be a distant memory.
As for the name association, I think it goes for movies, singers, etc. People always look for a link.
I didn't know that Palin's daughter was Piper. I immediatly thought of Piper Parebo - the main actress in Coyote Ugly.
And I agree with you...no one will even care about the Palins in a few years.
This. And I agree, by the time your daughter is old enough to be in school no one will care about Palin anymore. Plus, I'm not so sure the kids her age will know things like that.

Yeesh! People are nuts. Who would name a baby after a terribly destructive and deadly hurricane?? Seems morbid.
I know a guy who named his kid Nyla. He said because one of the planes on 9/11 was going from NY to LA. I just thought "yeah... you're reaching a little too hard on that one." But he tells everyone that same story and everyone smiles and goes... "Oh really... nice." and they make a look like "uh huh... yeah buddy"
I see Nyla, and I think Nyla brand dog bones and dog toys.
Same here.
I am a Republican, and even I pray she goes away.
This, I didn't even know Palin had a daughter named Piper.....
But Piper from Charmed was pretty BA, so I think you'll be fine...
This is what we usually get, and that does not bother me. But I'm glad you ladies agree with me. My sister was with me when it happened and she despises Sarah Palin, and is a HARD CORE democrat, so I had to hear about it all last night.
Thanks for the input!

Yup you sure are. We considered Piper because we both love it but literally every single person we mentioned it to said Oh Sarah Palin's daughter. I hate when a good name gets used up by a stupid celebrity. My FI has loved the name Brody since he was 5 years old but won't even consider it now because of the Hills and Brody Jenner.
I still love the name! Hopefully her stupidity will have made her a non-entity by the time your daughter is in school.
