Does anyone use Skype?

Has anyone here ever used Skype to show off your LO to family and friends? Is it really "free"? What type of webcam do you have? I am thinking that this may be a good Christmas gift for the grandparents if I can find them an inexpensive but decent webcam. TIA!

    It's totally free. No help on the webcam, though. I've got one in my Mac.

    We Skype almost every day with my parents (in England), and also with my grandparents (also in England), DH's grandparents (in South Africa) and DH's parents (in California). It's really free. I just bought a $50 webcam from Best Buy, though I wouldn't recommend the one I got. You definitely get what you pay for - my grandparents have a really cheap one and it does make conversations more difficult because their mic cuts out and their picture is really blurry.

    yes its free if you do it for free video chat.  not sure what webcam we have.  Even if you have a cheapy its worth it.  I love skype..

    Most newer laptops have a camera built in - you might want to ask them (if they have a laptop) if theirs has one.

    And yes, Skype is completely free unless you want to use it to call actual phone numbers.

    I've used Skype, but prefer Google Talk (basically the same thing).  We live hundreds or thousands of miles from all family.  It's great!  We have a Logitech webcam (I think they run about $40 each).

    My parents haven't killed themselves because of Skype. DD is the only grandchild and we moved half way across the country. We both bought a Logitech camera, I've heard they are the best.

    We use it several times a week. It's really free. We got a mid-grade webcam at Fry's Electronics.

    We use it with family all across the continent ... it's great!  We have a logitech webcam as well, works really well.
