Have any of you seen this? I was watching it for the second time and it angers me so much. These women want girls so badly they keep having children and then under go an IVF procedure which selects girl embryos to implant. The women who always angers me is the one who had six boys and refused to marry her BF of 19 years until he "gave" her a girl. She did end up with twin girls and finally married. The other two women on the program are unsuccessful in their IVF attempts and are devastated.
I understand the desire to want a girl, I still want a girl, but I also feel very blessed to have my two boys. I can only imagine the stress that this desire brings upon a marriage. I would assume the DH would feel like a failure. What are your thoughts?
Re: The show Too many boys on Discovery Health?
I've never heard of this show, but I can only imagine how the boys they have feel. If they are this crazy over wanting girls, I'm sure they aren't very secretive to their boy children that they aren't wanted. That is sad.
I get how it can feel like a loss in a way. But would hope I'd be able to manage my feelings in such a way that my other children didn't feel crappy about it (take this from someone who has one of each).
I get more offended by those that *REALLY* want boys; I think because of the millions of missing girls in the world (and what that implies). And also because my first is a girl and I had several people express slight regret to me that she was a girl (before she was born).
The other two women didn't anger me as much as the one with the 6 boys. The end of the show shows her shopping with her girls and the wedding. I can't believe the guy put up with her. I want to punch her!
Have you ever lurked on a "gender dissapointment" forum? Those women have serious mental issues, and apparently enabling obgyns.
I remember one woman finding out she was sure she was having her 4th girl or something (early in her pregnancy), and telling her doctor she wanted to terminate and why, and he supported her decision.
People don't have enough problems anymore, if this is even on the radar.
