Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Please give me hope, How long does the boob pain last?

Project no more EP'ing has commenced

Day 1 it's 10:00am and I haven't pumped since 11:00pm last night. Boobies are massive-if they had a seam, I'm pretty sure they'd split at the seams! I took Benadryl last night and have tried to drink very little water.

How long did your pain last while weaning?

  • I can't imagine going cold turkey. Ouch. Weaning one feeding at a time wasn't really that painful. I have no idea about your question, but I hope it goes fast for you!

  • Yeah, I wouldn't go cold turkey.  I'm planning to stop very gradually.  Maybe let a little out for some relief.  And frozen peas should help too.  Good Luck!

  • why are you going cold turkey?  you should really drop one feeding/pump at a time waiting 4-5 days at least before dropping another one.  i can't imagine just stopping!

  • Go ahead and pump a bit don't go cold turkey.

  • I'm not really trying to go cold turkey but as it is now I only pump 3 times a day so dropping one pumping is actually pretty major.  I think I'll pump around noon and then we'll see from there!

  • I just started totally weaning yesterday. I was already down to 3 nursing sessions anyway, so I just stopped nursing all together. My boobs hurt pretty bad too! That being said, I have pumped a few times for comfort. I try to stop before my milk lets down and usually only go about 3 minutes. It really helps.

  • Maybe you could pump more frequently, but just a little bit at a time.

So like pump 5 times a day, but only pump a couple ounces, but then gradually cut out the pumping sessions.

  • I weaned over the course of a month.  Each week I'd drop a session.  Last Saturday was my very last pumping session and I never had any pain.

I hope you get some relief soon.  And CONGRATS on pumping so long!!  Such dedication!

    I *almost* made 9 months.

  • My last feeding was last tuesday :( Kind of sad! What I did was take a pumping and one nursing out everyday. I would do that for a couple days and then take away another one. I was down to one feeding a day. It had been 24 hours with no feeding or pumping and I was in really bad pain so I pumped each side just for 2 mins....really not long at all and it made me feel sooooo much better. Make sure you are getting HOT showers and massaging the knots out!
