Maddie uses many signs and the learning curve is really varied. Sometimes she gets a sign right away, sometimes after several demonstrations in one sitting, some several sittings and, well, sometimes not at all. But we always show something that is familiar and in context, not usually just some random object.
I got a new baby sign book that had a DVD that just listed/showed signs in alphabetical order and was just the woman signing, no picture of the object/action. Maddie saw "Lizard" on the DVD over two weeks ago for the first and the last time. Anyway, for the surprising part. We were watching Dr. Doolittle and there was a lizard and I said, "Oh, look at the lizard" but didn't sign it. She looked at it and made the sign. I can't believe it. I wouldn't have thought she would have retained some random word after having seen the sign once, esp. without an object to associate it with.
I'm so tickled and excited I just had to share.

My Blog

That is amazing! Isn't it crazy how their minds work?
And I LOL'ed at your subject line
Yeah, I posted without the disclaimer first and when I saw it I thought with all the BFPs going around I had better clarify.
It's not my time for that post....yet.
Oh - and BTW I love, love your siggy. It makes me miss Maddie's "smell, this, Mommy" face....
