Infertility

Acupuncture?

I am curious to hear about experiences with acupuncture. We found out that our insurance would cover this for IF- and I am intrigued. I figure at the least it couldn't hurt, right? Obviously I will talk to my RE about it- but has anyone tried this? What was it like? Has it helped it any way? Any success stories?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Acupuncture?

  • I started doing acupuncture after my 1st failed cycle.  I really enjoyed going.  My acupuncturist specializes in fertility.  I found that I felt better afterwards - had more energy (which was good for me).  I don't know how much of a difference it made as far as success goes - I was struggle with egg quality issues.

I would take advantage of it if you have insurance coverage.  Because if a cycle doesn't work, you will wonder what if you had done acupuncture.

    Good luck.

  • I have gone a few times, and I really enjoy it.  My insurance does not cover it, so I haven't gone on a regular basis.  I am a terrible sleeper and she does something to help with that.

I am going to try and go more because I can't do another cycle for a couple of months.  If my insurance covered it, I would go all the time!

    Good luck!

  • Hey Halo...you live by me.  I've been to a couple, but the girls on here told me what to watch out for and the one I was seeing in Paoli was a bit of a hoax.  If it's covered I would go, but it got a little pricey out-of-pocket and time consuming with all the other appointments.

I've heard it really works though, yogo too.

  • i did it once a week for 3 months but it didn't do anything to help with conceiving. i will say, i felt so relaxed when i left there. i loved it, and probe would have continued to go if insurance covered something. it was $100 a session ($400 a month!)

i say if insurance covers it give it a go, you have nothing to lose.

  • Thanks for the responses ladies! It sounds like most of you had a positive experience so I think I can going to try it! Even if it's something that just relaxes me or that I enjoy, I figure since insurance covers it I have nothing to lose.

  • If I had coverage, I would max it out!  I go and pay OOP.  I started before my last IUI and then started up again before my IVF cycle.  It is very relaxing and doesn't hurt (if it pinches, you can have them move the needles).  I would recommend someone who specializes in fertility, though they can treat other things while you are there too.  GL!!
