Fill me in - what's the appeal of Yo Gabba Gabba?

I'm way behind on why this show is so popular.  I keep hearing people saying their kids watch Yo Gabba Gabba.  So I checked out the website for this show. Maybe I'm missing something, but why do the kids like this show? It's got a guy wearing a orange wig and some weird looking characters.  Is it the music they like?

  • S will not watch tv at all, no cartoons or shows that I watch. Yo Gabba Gabba comes on and she is staring at the tv. I think that show is creepy and I don't know why it catches her attention, but it does. She doesn't sit and watch the entire show, but it does hold her attention for 5-10 minutes. Yo Gabba Gabba = baby crack

  • Don't ask me ask my kid lol.

I think it is the music. He loves to dance to it. And it isn't as bad as Dora or Diego. I can stand Yo Gabba Gabba.

This. And once you get past the weird factor, it's actually kind of cool. The music is pretty good and they have some really good bands and guest appearances.

  • Music, colors, dancing, general goofiness, a fast pace. It's pretty much exactly the type of thing that appeals to most kids.

  • This show makes me want to poke out my eyeballs. But it's the only show M will watch. I turn it on sometimes when I need a few minutes of peace.
  • DS doesnt watch any other TV except the occasional YGG episode. And he LOVES it. Music, dancing - what is not to love?

  • My LO is totally captivated by this show.  Initially I thought it was so weird, but actually, it is pretty retro and cool.  My LO literally dances the entire time, so it can't be that bad.  :-)

    Elitist!

I am sure Mother Loving Elmo will be a much better influence on your child than Brobee. Ha! Ha! Ha!

  • I don't get it either, but the few times DD has seen it, she has LOVED it.

  • I think it is so much better then some of the other cartoons. Have you seen the episode with Jack Black. It is so funny.
  • I've never seen it either.  I haven't really introduced DD to kid TV yet.

  • DS used to like it, and then after stopping for a while...we saw it again, but very differently, its a very over-stimulating show that gave even me a minor headache.

DS loves it, but its so bright and fast...the songs are catchy though.

  • It's just like any show. People have preferences. My son likes the music, dancing, the quick pacing.  He doesn't like Sesame Street because it's slow moving.  He doesn't really like cartoons.  YGG has different celebrities on, it's more "hip" and has appeal to kids and adults.

We love YGG. It's fun, it's interesting, it holds his and our attention and love the songs.  Saw it live at Radio City with him a few months ago and it was like his favorite day ever.

Some people like Mickey Mouse or Barney. I'd rather sew my eyes shut than watch those. Again, just personal preference.

Totally this.  We were late YGG bloomers.  I thought you had to be tripping acid or something to watch that show when I first saw it. Now when I watch any other show with G the rest seem sooooo boring and the characters are soooo annoying. (other than sesame street) G seems to love it too so its a win win.

  • It's the only show DD watches. She loves the music and the characters and I will admit that I love the music too. I catch myself humming the songs all the time. She also loved DJ Lance :-).

Ditto.. it and Jack's Big Music show are the only show we watch. We are all big YGG fans (see siggy. hehe) We even went to see YGG Live earlier this month.

It's hip, it's got great music, is colorful and fun. DD loves it. So does her Mommy. I always sit and watch it with her. :-)

Sure beats Barney, or that god awful Wonder Pets show anyday, IMO!
