Need suggestions re: first birthday party! (Holiday birthday)

Hi all! It's been ages since I've been on the boards...
So DD's 1st birthday is rapidly coming up (I say rapidly even though we are about 1.5 months out because I know if I don't start addressing it now, a party won't happen- me working and husband full time school with holidays coming up...)
I am drawing a total blank right now. Her first birthday will be her golden birthday- she'll be 1 on 01/01/11 and I'd love to have something really special for her. Obviously, the holidays can be a little bit encumbersome as far as schedules go...
Any fun ideas for a theme and/or special 'golden' birthday gifts? I'd love any suggestions to get me started...

Since you're doing 'golden' I would do gold and purple or gold and pink. Play up the fireworks seeing as how it's the 1st.
