1st Trimester

I'm hungry constantly. Should I eat constantly?

And did I mention that all I crave is McDonald's big macs? I haven't indulged yet, but I'm going to break soon??it's all I can think about.  I haven't eaten fast food in years, but suddenly I want it so bad.

So, McD's aside, does anyone know if I should ignore some of these hunger pains, or if I should be shoving food in my face all day long? It just doesn't seem normal to eat so much...

  • Have you tried drinking water?  I know I used to feel what I thought were hungry pains but in reality I was dehydrated.  If you can stand it, definitely try not to overeat.  Although it's tempting to "eat for two", remember that you're only supposed to be getting about 300 extra calories a day (that's only about 5 chicken McNuggets  lol)

    But I'm pretty bad at controlling my eating now too.  Mickey D's is my biggest pregnancy comfort food.  Maybe it's all the salt or something, but it usually does the trick to settle my m/s

  • I give in most of the time. I figure my body needs it for one reason or another. It's also a pretty short lived phase and I get over it, not much harm done. I just try to make a relatively healthy choice while still satisfying what I crave.
  • Thank you, I really appreciate the input. I'll try drinking more water. I didn't know about the calories, as I haven't had my first Dr. appt. yet, and all the books seem to deal more with M/S, but I have the opposite problem! I'm naturally very thin and weirded out by eating so much.
  • I keep small, healthy snacks with me at all times! Celery, carrots, apple slices, string cheese, yogurt! I eat if Im really hungry...but the high-fiber fruits & things satisfy better. Also keep very hydrated! I sometimes have a Gatorade, just to make sure Im not losing nutrients. :-)

  • i had this same problem although it seems to be calming down just a bit.  switching to eating smaller snacks/meals much more frequently has helped a lot!

  • In the begining, I ate loads of crap. Taco bell was my thing.  For me, I was happy to eat anything that stayed down.  You can't eat like that for 9 months.  For me, I stopped craving crap at about 10-11 weeks, and now I actually feel crappy when I eat junk. Now I love to eat salad, etc.

    So my answer is give in and keep your tummy full. Just try to make as many good choices for the bad choices you make.

    I still eat constantly, but way smaller things. I snack all day long on fruit.

  • I have been having the same problem.  If I get hungry I actually get sick.  I have been putting crackers in my purse.  It helps the cravings for a little bit and it is healthier then a Big mac.. :)
