Making your own laundry detergent...

Does anyone have to use perfume and dye free store bought stuff?  Can you use the homemade stuff?

 Do you have any recipes?

  • tipnut.com has a bunch of recipes for homemade detergent.

  • I just bought Maggie's Soap Nuts and am hoping we like them so I won't have to buy anything else. We'll soon see!
  • Also check out the book Green Clean - lots of great recipes for laundry and everything else.  Overall good EF cleaning handbook.
  • I have to use the no scent stuff from the store but I've been able to make my own powder detergent from a recipe online.  Just don't use Fels Naptha for the soap in the recipe if you are sensitive.  It's really irritating and the scent lingers pretty strong in the clothes.  My favorite soap to use is the Dr. Bronners bar, even the scented ones (my fav is rose).  The scents are gentle.
