I am friends w/ alot of you on FB so I know you all have seen this but just wanted to post a quick update. His surgery was a great success...they were able to bring his testicle down and it was unharmed and shouldnt effect fertility. It has a button in it that we have to go get removed in a week or two and he only has the small incisions from the laproscopic part of it. I ended up calling the hospital and asking to come in early to make sure he did okay since he had to fast before the anesthesia. RSS kids are at high risk of developing fasting hypoglycemia/ketonemia so I wanted to make sure he was getting a glucose drip when he was fasting...
Surgery went great, he had to be given morphine for pain when he first came out of it and his sugars were fine right after surgery (97) but he refused to eat (we tried formula, pedialyte, nothing) I was worried about taking him home since he wouldnt eat and he has problems eating as it is without the added pain from surgery. Well they took him off the IV to see if that would bring his appetite back, it was a no go so after 20 mins of no IV they wanted to test his sugars again and it went from 97 to 78 and they werent comfortable sending us home with sugars so low and unstable. So now we are staying overnight at Childrens hoping he can get some feeds in and we can stop the IV and get his sugars stabilized. We appreciate all the kind and encouraging words and T&P-- you ladies are the best :-)
Re: Update on N
So happy to hear things went well! I'm sure that is a huge relief for you! Continued T&P that he starts eating and isn't in too much pain! What a tough little guy he is!
