First Aid Kit

We don't have a baby first aid kit and didn't get one as a gift at our baby shower. Is there a set you all would recommend that has the basics we would need? (clueless here) TIA!

Re: First Aid Kit

  • All you need is a bulb syringe (which you may get at the hospital), some infant Tylenol, nasal saline spray, and a thermometer.  Some people will say Mylicon but we never use that.  Nail clippers are another thing that is sometimes in those kits that you will want.  You could also pick up some infant ibuprofen and Benadryl but you wont use them for at least 6 months.

  • I think the one we ended up with was a Red Cross brand. The only thing that's gotten use is the hairbrush. I agree with Blayne - just buy the necessities individually. The bulb syringe and thermometer that came in our kit were crap. I preferred emery boards over clippers because I nicked her once and wouldn't use the clippers again.
  • I agree, I got one of the red cross ones and all I used was the brushes. I say don't buy a bulb, the ones I have bought from stores have been crap. Make sure to take home the one you get at the hospital. I would get some nail clippers, tylenol, saline drops, mylicon or gripe water, and maybe a booboo ice pack (we have used ours every day for the past month).
  • Blayne and Lib - you both mentioned saline drops.  I've never used them.  What are they for?  Sounds like they might be pretty useful.

I use the saline drops to help with stuffy nose. Marcos has had post nasal drip since he was born (although it is better now) so it sounded like he had a rattle in his chest due to the congestion. It helped clear the boogies.
