Just curious. I had a 5 day transfer but I have noticed that some ladies have a 3 day transfer. Wondering if anyone knows why some Dr's do the 3 day and others do the 5 day?
I think it has to do with how many embies you have at day 3. I'm sure each clinic has a different cutoff. The idea is that if you have, let's say, 7 embies at day 3, then they'll wait til day 5 so they can transfer the best ones. At day 5, you may not still have all 7 left. But if you only have 2 or 3 embies on day 3, then they may go ahead and transfer at day 3. HTH
The standard for my clinic is a 5dt for a couple of reasons. First of all, our embies go through CGH testing at day 3. Secondly, they prefer to transfer those that make it 5dper because are more developed (viable) than day 3.

every clinic is diff but i believe if you only have a few embies and they transfer early. if its 7 or more they wait till day 5 and transfer the best. thats a short version of what my nurse told me.

In most cases its determined by the number of embies/rate of growth. Some REs have different philosophies or opinions based on your personal condition. On my first IVF, I had 8 embies going strong at day 5. I transferred 2 and froze 3. All have resulted in BFNs in fresh/frozen cycle. My new RE will be doing a 3 day transfer regardless of number of embies to add another change between protocol 1 and protocol 2. I pushed her extensively because I was told 5 day was "better," but she laughed and said, "well on paper you should be pregnant and you arent', so lets break the rules."
