  • Wow!  That's great that he can do that already!  Good for you!  Lord, I don't even know what age they are usually introduced!  I better read up on that too :)

It's because I mentioned awhile back that I gave him a sippy to try out and a few people got snarky on me.  It's not really a big deal, but not all kids take to a sippy in a day like yours.

  • cute. a definite overachiever ;) can he teach my 9 month old? she's sooo uninterested in juice or the sippy.
  • I didn't even think of trying to introduce it until 6 months.  Which is tomorrow!  Which one did you use?  I'm way too into ratings and reviews, which makes it impossible to make any decisions.

  • What are you giving your LO in a sippy cup at 4 months old?

  • I also started the sippy when ds was 4 months, when I started solids. He only has it during his meals. At first I put a little water in it, now I put formula. He was able to drink from it the first time we tried.

I used to nanny for triplets, and their pedi said to start apple juice (1 oz juice, 3 oz water) in a sippy when we started rice cereal to keep them from getting constipated...

  • We started DD on a sippy at 4 months too. She did great for a while, and then wanted nothing to do with it.

  • Pretty sure it looks like water.

Our pedi said to introduce the sippy at 4 month, but to only put 1-2 oz of water in it and not formula. It is basically for practice at this point.

  • What's in it?  My almost 4 month old is on stage 2 flow and doesn't hold a bottle, my oldest was the same thing at this age.  He didn't start with a sippy until maybe 10 months for juice.  I'm confused by this, maybe b/c I didn't see the o/p?

  • I dont really see the point of it at 4 months but thats just me. Why the rush for every new "thing"??

  • Really?  Juice at 4 months?  Isn't that quite early?  My LO is 4 1/2 months old and I haven't even introduced rice cereal yet.  Guess I'm way behind...

Here's an article I found on juice:

Important Points About Offering Your Baby Juice

Your baby does not require any supplemental fluids such as water or juice for quite some time.  Once your baby has turned 6-8 months old, with your pediatrician's consult, you may then begin to offer very small amounts of water.  If you think your baby is "thirsty" and would like a drink, try water.

    • If you decide to offer fruit juice as a "drink" try waiting until baby is at least 8 months old. **Offering juice as a constipation remedy is acceptable as young as 4 months old with the consult of your pediatrician**
    • Giving your baby water as a first "beverage" instead of juice will be healthier in the long run.
    • Always dilute any juice that is offered to babies and toddlers.  We recommend diluting 75% water to 25% juice.  Keep diluting for as long as possible.
    • Juice should never ever be offered in a baby bottle.  Juice in a bottle is a major cause of dental problems.
    • Also, never allow your baby or toddler to drink from a sippy cup of juice throughout the day.

  • It's just water...he only drinks about 1/4 oz.

This, except our pedi said 5-6 months depending on interest and development.  We've started too.  DD gets where the water comes from and that she's supposed to hold on to the handles.  She hasn't yet mastered the angle, though.

  • Good for you.

It seems rather unnecessary though.  By "it" I mean both this post & giving the sippy cup so early.
