Hi Ladies,
I'm new to the 3rd tri board, and have a question for you. Did anyone fail their 1 hr GTT but pass the 3 hr? I took the 1 hr on Wednesday and got the call yesterday that I failed and have to go for the 3 hr.
Also if you do have GD what are your Dr's doing to monitor you, what did they say about inductons/c-sections, how long will they let baby cook for?
TIA! I really appreciate your answers.
Re: Anyone fail 1 hr but pass 3hr? OR have GD?
I failed my one hour and three hour with DD. I monitored my blood sugar 3-4 times a day and watched my refined sugars and breakfast (Breakfast can be the most difficult time of the day for someone with GD because you have a low sugar level from fasting while you sleep and eating the wrong thing for breakfast can cause your levels to spike)
I had an ultrasound at 37 weeks to check DD's growth and make sure she wasn't too big. My water broke at 39 weeks and she was born naturally with no complications. My OB did tell me that they wouldn't let me go more than a week overdue because of the GD but that was really the only thing that changed with my pregnancy since I was easily able to control the GD with diet. If you follow your doctor/nutritionist's advice you should be able to have whatever birth you have been hoping for. Good Luck.
I failed my one hour and passed my three hour. I would say over half the girls on here have passed their three hour after failing the one. Good luck! And I know some people may not like me saying this, but be careful what you eat the day before the test. Stay away from sugars and carbs and DO NOT EAT the morning of (if your taking it in the am)
I failed the one hour with about a 159, so not good at all. Before I $went I drank 3 cups of coffee and ate scrambled eggs.
I read that caffeine impacts your body's ability GREATLY to clear sugar.
For the 3 hour I completely fasted - no caffeine and had no troubles - nowhere near GD.
I failed my 1 hr and passed my 3hr (which I took at around 29 weeks). I had a growth ultrasound at 31 weeks and he was measuring 2 weeks ahead so my dr. had me take another 3hr test at 33 weeks, which I failed.
After I failed my 2nd 3hr test, I had to go to nutritionist appts and test my blood sugar 4x a day until 35 weeks when the nutritionist said I only needed to test every other day because my numbers were really good. Honestly, I didn't really follow the prescribed diet; I just cut out sugar and watched my carb intake and my numbers were always great. I have to go back 6wks pp (which is in about a month) to take a 2hr test.
Since LO was measuring 2 weeks ahead and he was breech, I had a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks 4 days. I hope this information helps!!
I also failed the one hour, and easily passed the three hour. The nurse said it was probably just something I ate the day I took the one hour. Good luck!
With my oldest, I failed the one hour and passed the 3 hour no problem. WIth my youngest, I failed the one hour and failed the 3 hour by about 5 points. I controlled it with diet (though, I cheated, a lot, and it did not affect my numbers at all). Like, a dinner at Olive Garden with dessert did nothing to my numbers. Anyway, even if you do have it, the diet really is not that bad. I basically ate the same, I just spaced it out to small meals all day.
As far as monitoring/inductions, I had a couple extra ultrasounds to monitor growth. In my case, they were worried the baby was too small. I was induced at 39 weeks. No problems related to the GD. I think I was just borderline.
