Change OB at 31 weeks?????

Well, I just got back from my appointment and y mom came with me... The doctor seems to have stepped over the line, he thinks he is being funny but today I just found him very disrispectful with my mother and me, making jokes while calling us both names... he is an old man, about 70 and he has been in the practice for more than 25 years, and in the beginning he seemed kind of fun but over the time, he is just becoming too rude and he thinks its funny, but I no longer feel comfortable with him, and also because of the fact that I am 31 weeks and he is predicting a c-section, just found out from other patients that they had a c-section, here in Mexico to have a c-section is an option.

I am a first time mom, and I have had a misscarriage 2 years ago so, everything is new to me, and whenever I try to ask, I am always  scolded.. I have come to the point that I feel scared and dumb to ask anything....

So my request from you all ladies is, do you think its too late to change OB? what are  your recommendations? what should I consider before taking this decision?

Re: Change OB at 31 weeks?????

  • It is not too late by any stretch of the imagination!  I had to change OBs at 34 weeks because my doctor closed his practice and moved out of state.  So it's completely doable!  And since you've become increasingly uncomfortable with him, I think you've answered your own question.  (Not to mention the part where I don't think I'd want a 70 year old performing a c-section on me...)

  • It's definitely not too late to switch, especially if you feel uncomfortable. Just make sure to get recommendations and spend some time with your new doctor, if possible, before making the switch.  Be sure to ask about things that are important to you (like not having a c-section if it's not medically necessary, etc.) and just generally make sure you feel comfortable with your new choice. • I changed at 30 weeks and it was no problem.  If you aren't comfortable with him, find a new OB.

  • NEVER too late to swap. I mean, you could kick the doc out when you start pushing and ask for a new one right?
  • I say change for sure!  That last thing you want is anxiety and not fully trust your OB.  So many doctors do C-sections now a days so they can golf on the weekends.  I say find someone you are completely comfortable with and agrees that c-sections are for emergencies only.  GOOD LUCK!

  • I actually just changed at 31wks to a new doctor, completely doable just can be stressful but totally worth it.

    Good luck!

  • i changed at 31 weeks, best thing i could have done.
  • Based on your description, I would change docs pronto. I wouldn't put up with any dr I didn't feel comfortable with, especially when it comes to such an important event. GL.
