heart palpitations?

Has any one else experienced heart palpitations?  I've had several the last couple days and was sort of freaked out by it.  I hear that it is due to increased blood flow and low magnesium, but it's still worrying me.  I will mention it to the Dr., but can any one else relate?

Re: heart palpitations?

  • Not sure if that is exactly what I have been experiencing, I have asthma and have been taken off my medication.  Sometimes it feels like a mild attack without the wheazing, my chest gets tight and it feels like my heart is racing.  Is that it?

  • Yes, I had them my last pregnancy with DD.  I talked to my Dr. about it because I would get them so bad I would almost hyperventilate.  He told me that I needed to relax more!  I only had them off and on troughout my pregnancy and they would always come at random times (sitting on the couch watching TV, driving home from work etc).
  • With mine I feel my heart beating and it feels like it skips a beat or beats irregularly for a several seconds.

  • Yep in fact I just got one...weird...

  • Mention them to your OB but palpitations can be normal during PG. Some things you can do help them are to control your breathing when they start up because the harder/faster you breath the more it will affect the beats. Also, make sure that you cut out any and all caffeine and even large amounts of sugar since these can also affect the palpitations. I also have noticed that for me if I am sleep deprived and my body is stressing it also make them kick up more.

I have PVCs in general that I would experience a couple times a week prePG and now it is a normal thing for me to continuously have them. And you are correct in the fact that the increase in blood volume is what is affecting your heart (although not sure about the low magnesium).

  • Yeah i've been getting these too. I'm glad you mentioned this. I just thought I was falling apart. My family doesn't have the best track record with hearts.

  • I have them pg or not.  I have found that taking fish oil pills everyday has stopped them.  I stopped taking them when I start my PV because it has it in there, but I found that they came back.  Not sure if it's because I'm pg or because I'm not taking enough through my PV so I started taking the fish oil again and I haven't felt anymore.  Wouldn't hurt to try...

This. I've had them every now and then since about week 13 or 14. Not too often, though. Maybe 10 total in that time.

What brand of fish oil do you take? I get them outside of pg too and hate them.  I've taken fish oil in the past but everything I've taken made me burp fish tasts *gag*.  Any suggestions on a brand and method of taking it?

  • I get the GNC brand. I've never had a problem with burping fish like I hear people say. There is also krill oil pills now that they say has no fish taste at all and has more of the good stuff in them without taking as many pills. But they do cost more. I'm going to try those next time I run out of the fish oil.

  • I had them prior to being pregnant and had an EKG done and was told mine were due to stress. I was put on Zoloft and they stopped. I have had them a few times since I found out I was pregnant.
