Have to take penicillin - kinda nervous :(

I got my wisdom teeth removed on oct 15th (around the time we conceived actually, lol).  I developed an infection a few days later and went on antibiotics the next week, and they didnt work.    I've been off them a week and just started new ones tonite and I'm so nervous.

 Its not really a situation where I have a choice though because infections left untreated can be a direct cause of miscarriage which would not be very cool.. My dentist asked me if I was okay taking the penicillin being pregnant and I said yes b/c I'd rather not just leave this infection.  

Now that I took the 1st dose, I'm off to see how bad penicillin really is on dr google,  greaaattt.  Hope I like what I see.

    penicillan is the safest med to be on (any "cillan").  Do not give yourself more of a headache-  you need to get that infection cleared up.  Feel better

    Do you have an OB to ask? I'd give that priority over the dentist's okay.

    I have a midwife but I don't really want to be a pain in the butt. I might drop her an e-mail to let her know

    I am not a doc- but I had to go on augmentin while dh and I were trying and i asked the ob the same question.  Augmentin/amoxicillan and penicillan and the z-pak are the only very safe antibiotics (well the only ones that would clear up my upper respiratory infection) that were safe to use.  Clearing the infection and the risks associated with the infection are way more important.

    I wouldn't hesitate to email her, though consensus here is that it is fine to take. (Phew!) Your midwife gave you her email for these types of scenarios. Smile

    I'm fairly certain that penicillin is one of the antibiotics used to treat Group B Strep + before labor (unless the person is allergic).
