My LO was born at 28 weeks. He weighed 2 lbs 14 oz and was 15 in. long. He is now 4 1/2 months old and is weighing almost 15 lbs! He was on oxygen for 10 weeks and in the NICU for 11 weeks. He loves his food and would eat all day if he could stay awake long enough! He is at 50% for his weight and 25% for height! It is so amazing how fast he has grown and just goes to prove that preemies arent small forever!
Re: Our little 28 week preemie
Thats awesome!
That's an awesome story! Congratulations!
I think people underestimate preemies. Most people that see of hear of a preemie they might thing how weak or fragile they are. But they couldn't be more wrong. Preemies have such a strong will to live and fight that they continue to amaze even specialists that work in the field.
My son wasn't born that early but at 37 weeks gestation he was considered a "preemie" at 8lbs 8oz. I was told he would not live due to his breathing difficulties, call a priest and a funeral home. I had a nurse tell me the most humane thing I could do as a mother is to let them bring him to me and have him die peacefully in my arms. Well, I refused to give up and my 'little' preemie felt the same way. He fought back and proved every doctor wrong. He's 9 now.
My daughter was born at 36 weeks and I was certain the same fate would be hers. I was wrong. She was born a tiny little fighter at 5lbs 15ozs (smallest baby in our family by our standards), lost more than 10% of her body weight by the time we were discharged and she's amazed us all. We had no idea the strength that tiny little girl had in her. She certainly isn't small anymore. As you said, they grow. She's now 11 months old, in 12-18 months clothes and has figured out that food is awesome!
Congratulations on your fighter! You're in for one heck of a ride. He will continue to amaze you. I'm very happy for you and your family.
Congrats on your ever growing preemie
Please see my siggy pic...my son was born at 32 weeks he was 3lbs 12oz.
He is now 9 months old and weighed in at 23lbs at his last appointment. Never underestimate a preemie, they will surprise you every time.
