Sleep Sack

I learned today during our daycare trial run that they are not able to swaddle DS because of a license issue.  They did offer to put a blanket in his crib, but I'm not comfertable with that just yet.

I called to ask if they would do a sleep sack and they are checking with their licensing focal.  Has anyone who has swaddle restrictions had issues with sleep sacks?  Am I crazy for not wanting to have a blanket in his crib?

Re: Sleep Sack

  • I would check the state regs yourself; sometimes they are updated and the daycare doesn't know.

I have seen LO's in sleep sacks at our daycare, I can't remember if I've seen them swaddled.

I never even thought of that... duh... thanks!

  • you would think that putting a blanket in with LO would be more against regulations since nothing is supposed to be in cribs these days. Sleep sacks are sort of like PJs, so I can't imagine there would be a problem with that. I'm not any help, just giving my two cents :-)

That is exactly what I thought....

  • I'm in WA, too and my daycare swaddles DD in a sleep sack.  They weren't sure if it was going to be an issue or not but I believe they checked w/ the Dept. of Health nurse and got the "okay".
  • Our son was the same way and we learned just a couple of days before starting day care that they couldn't swaddle.  The weekend before he started, we loosely swaddled him for naps. We use the Aden and Anais muslin blankets to swaddle.  By the end of the weekend, we were able to just lay the blanket on top of him and tuck it in at his sides.

We send the blanket with him to day care and he has been doing fine ever since.  The blanket is so light weight that I'm not worried about it being in the crib with him. He has also weened himself of the swaddle at night and now uses sleep sacks.  In fact, at day care, they can lay him down when he is tired but awake and he will fall asleep on his own.

We were convinced that he would fight the no swaddling but he has been great.  Your LO may be able to adjuster better than you think.

  • You could also offer to bring a doctor's note.  Our daycare requires those for swaddlers, I think, but it wasn't a big deal to get one.
