I never have before, but that was before I had a toddler. I've been layering long-sleeve white tees under his shirts on cool days and the cuffs get destroyed. There's no amount of Shout in the world that can help that mess.
I hate the smell of bleach, but I don't want my kid looking like trash. So, do you bleach? Or is there a better alternative for stain removal on whites? And if you do bleach, how do you do it? Put it straight in the wash? Pre-treak and soak?
Re: Do you bleach your whites?
I rarely do...only if I have a white something or other that needs it.
When I nannied, the mom wanted me to bleach all the boys whites every time. (must be a dirty boy thing.)
I'd fill up the washer with only the whites and any underwear...white or not.....let the water fill up...then add about a cup of bleach to the water.
The only thing is it wears the clothes out a lot quicker...socks get holes quicker, etc. But if it needs it, it needs it!

I don't bleach but I do spray with OxiClean spray and then soak for 24 hours in bucket of warm water and OxiClean powder. ?My boys are pretty big mess-makers, so I usually always have a bucket of OxiClean brewing.
?BTW- I paged you above

I occasionally do, just to get things sparkling again.
I often put Oxo Clean (a bio-degradable version of Oxyclean) powder in a regular white load though to help the detergent really get in there. it seems to work in the interim.

Have you heard of Mrs. Stewart's Bluing?
It is a safer, biodegradable whitener for clothes that will help them last longer, look newer & not come out so stinky!
