Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

What is this soup people are feeding their babies?

I've never heard of this.  I've been on The Bump for a couple of years and this is the first time I've heard of this.  Do they stick it in a bottle?  I'm confused?  TIA!

  • You will have to ask MrsN22 whose Polish husband was fed soup starting at 2 weeks old. But, just in case you're interested, MrsN22 aka IHH did not stalk DorothyShaw. DorothyShaw stalked her. It's got to be true. She said it on a message board. And apparently I am "clueless" because I didn't know any of this.

Silly me- you asked about soup. What was the question?

Yeah, it was pretty common back when my mom had her kids (my oldest brother is 55 years old) to feed them early.  My MIL has in her oldest' baby book that they were given clearance by the doc to feed him meat at 8 weeks.

I'm Polish and was raised in Poland until the age of 8.  Yes, they usually will start feeding soup early, but I don't know about 2 weeks old.  And everyone and every region has their own traditions so, I've never heard of this Lima bean soup that you eat at your Wigilia.

I am not saying I agree..I am just stating what she told me.  We got in a fight about it actually.  She wanted to feed DS soup at 3 months and was yelling telling me in poland they had no formula so she gave soup...it was probably just broth..i didn't ask.

I was just saying that it's true that they do start feeding soup early or a least they did back then.  Maybe where she lived they didn't have this, but they did have and still have "modified" milk  and a lot of baby products were imported from neighboring countries.  Maybe she just lied 'cause she wanted to win and feed your son soup?.  But I'm not going to judge her because I have no idea what part of the country she's from and maybe they didn't have access to those things.

  • My mom is from Israel and she was putting chicken soup (broth) in our bottles when we were about 2 months old. I have been feeding dd chicken soup once she started solids full of carrots, celery, zucchini, sweet potato. Its a great meal.
  • I gave my kid soup last night. He ate it with a spoon.

Kit, thank you for making me laugh while watching the insanity unfold. :)
