Infertility

If you take baby asprin or heparin...

If you take either of these meds for a clotting disorder, when do you take the meds? Do you always take them? Just when you are cycling? If it is just when you cycle, when do you start taking the meds?

I had the blood drawn for my Thrombosis Profile today and I'm just trying to get a sense of what possibly could be in my future.

Thanks! :)

Re: If you take baby asprin or heparin...

  • I take baby aspirin when I'm in the 2ww of an IUI or fresh IVF cycle, and while preparing for and in the 2ww of a FET.

  • I don't have any clotting disorders (that i know of), but my RE had me on aspirin about halfway throug my FET and when I started stims for this IUI.

I didnt take it between these two cycles.

  • My RE puts all patients on baby asprin and it's just one pill one time a day. There is no requirement for time of day. He makes you start taking them at the begining of a cycle and I'm not really sure when you stop.

Personally - I just keep taking it since we try on our own when we're not doing treatments.

  • I would take baby aspirin all throughout the IVF cycle as well as during the 2ww. I have continued to take a daily baby aspirin ever since even when we aren't doing IUI/IVF.

My girlfriend has a clotting disorder & is 18 weeks pregnant. She has been taking two shots daily of Heparin since she found out she was pregnant & will continue to do so until she delivers.

  • I take both BA and Lovenox when I cycle for antiphospholipid antibodies of every type.

  • I take b/a every day whether cycling or not.  I have a homozygous mutation of MTHFR, but I am not taking blood thinners at this time since my fasting homocysteine levels were normal.  That may change if/when I am pg.

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

  • I take baby aspirin everyday no matter what I'm doing ttc wise.  I start using lovenox on the same day that I start any fertility drugs.  I have a history of a blood clot in my leg so we're trying to prevent another one.  If I didn't have that history and was just dealing with a clotting disorder, I would start using the lovenox right after ovulation.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

    This Cluttered Life

  • I have MTHFR.  So I take baby asprin every day and continue to do so probably everyday for the rest of my life.

I started heparin 6 days into stims and do it twice daily as close to 12 hours apart as possible and will continue to do so through 12 weeks of pregnancy.  Lovenox does the same thing but it is only one shot a day.

    GL with your test results!

  • This may have been answered already and I'm sorry if it has, but why do RE's suggest the baby asprin? Mine suggested it after my ET yesterday, but due to other health issues I can't take asprin. He said that its fine to skip it, but I was just curious what the reason is in the first place.
