New to The Bump

cramping question

I'm looking for some girl advice/wisdom because I'm not finding it many other places...

So here are the details:

-Naturally my body is on a two month menstrual cycle. Thus, since I got my last period Feb 1, my next natural one is April1ish.

-My husband and I are TTC. We're not very active with it, but for the past couple weeks we've stopped using all contraception (I've been off the pill for almost a year and we had been using condoms til this point)

-In the mornings for the past week or two, I've been having cramps and all other "I'm about to start my period tomorrow" sensations that I usually feel, but my period hasn't started and it shouldn't start for another month.

-ALL home pregnancy tests have come out negative.

-I've been having bad nausea due to anxiety for the past three months (I also suffer frequent panic attacks and anxiety/stress). The nausea has been in the morning. I went to to doctor last week to figure out what the deal was, but they tested me 3 different ways for pregnancy which all came back negative.

So my question to you is....what are some reasons for these cramps and other pre-period sensations? Could I be pregnant but it's too early to tell? Could my body be reacting weird to stress? Could my body be trying to readjust itself to maybe a shorter cycle? I've never had this halfway through a cycle and it's wierding me out. Thoughts?

  • It really could be anything!  Maybe it's a freak cycle and you're about to start your period.  That's normal.  Maybe you're about to ovulate.  Maybe it's some sort of growth that may or may not go away by itself.  Unfortunately you just have to wait it out.  It could be some other random thing.  If it doesn't go away in a while then definitely call your doc.
  • If you don't know what your body is doing, how are we supposed to know?

Taking Charge of your Fertility is a great book and something you should read to figure out what your body is doing.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Ditto the suggestion to read Taking Charge of your Fertility!

There are so many reasons this might be happening - hope you find the answer soon!

  • I would suggest calling your doctor. Without more detail its hard to advise anything other than this.
  • Well first off, I would consider a 60-day cycle abnormal, so that should be addressed.

Your cramps could be anything from something gyn-related to something GI related. Sometimes it's hard to tell which it is, especially with your history of anxiety and stress.

I've had morning-specific stomach upset when I was most definitely not pregnant. I'd link this back to your anxiety/stress.

It could also be a random cycle where you have a shorter one, or ovulate at a different time. It happens every so often.

If things stay on track, schedule-wise, roll with it. If your period starts to get wacky, see your dr again.

    Good luck.

  • I did get a negative pregnancy test one month after my period in January!  I then was very crampy, had tender breasts, major heartburn, etc.  I figured that my period was going to start any day!  Needless to say, two weeks later, I had three positive tests!  I just ovulated late.

    Keep checking!  Who knows!
