3rd Trimester

For those not finding out the sex...

So I just recieved my first gift from on of my mother's friends that can't make it to the shower on Sunday. (which is my first) Let me say this before I go on, I appreciate EVERYONE who is kind enough to buy us something.

But if on the invitation it says "Boy or Girl? We have no clue" Why would you purchase someone something that 1. isn't on their registry and 2. Is a baby BLUE blanket and the thing that has a bit of fabric and a stuffed animal's head on the top of it also in blue.

What do you do with it? Did you get a lot of this at your showers if you told people that you weren't finding out?

Re: For those not finding out the sex...

  • I got some blue stuff, but I didn't mind. I figured there's no rule that girls can't have blue stuff. It's certainly more common than boys having pink stuff, so I'd be more annoyed by pink.

  • This happened at my shower too. I just held on to everything and will either return (if possible) or give away the items from the other gender.
  • I got a couple of blue onesies, however I don't think it is the end of the world to get a blue gift if you end up having a girl. A blue blanket works just as well on a girl as it does on a boy.
  • LOL,..this happened to me too.  I had people give us little boy clothes for next summer.  And not only were they boy clothes, they were a completely wrong size for them to wear in the summer.  I just said thank you, and gave them to a friend who has a baby who will be able to use them.  Not sure what they were thinking, but at least they went to a home that could use them, and there was no harm done.

  • Baby blue is a pretty unisex color in my book. It doesn't necessarily scream boy to me if it's a stuffed animal. I'm sure you can still use it if you have a girl.

Some people don't adhere to registries......just how it is.

We haven't found out for any of our kids. But, I also never registered nor had a shower, so I didn't get any gifts like that.......?

  • My grandparents bought us a boy outfit and a girl outfit...that was about the only thing that was really gender specific, though a few things lean closer to boy. Most everything else was either green, yellow or cream/white or off of our registry. Either exchange it or save it. You never can have too many blankets or even use it as a large burp cloth :-P
  • We got a couple things like that (including from MIL) and I just said thank you and when we couldn't use it after baby was born, then I just packed it away for when we would maybe eventually have a boy.

What can you do... some poepple just don't think.

  • One of my aunts insists I am having a girl and she bought several pink flowery onesies.  I am keeping them (unopened) on a shelf in the closet.  If we have a girl, then great!  If not, then I will either pack them away for a future child or save them for a baby shower next time I know someone having a girl.
  • Everyone at my shower pretty much stuck to the registry. That said, my nursery is light blue and green. I think blue can go either way.
  • Some people in my family/friends are soooooo sure that I am having a girl that they bought me decidedly girl things (and I loooove the white little Ugg-style boots with flowers on the back!) and my MIL is so sure I'm having a boy, so I have some definite boy things (again, I love the cute orange "Little Tiger" outfit for 9 months!).  People are so silly.

  • I didn't get any gender specific items at my shower - everything was pretty neutral.  I got alot of green stuff and a brown onsie which with a pink bow can be good for a boy or a girl in my opinion.

    :)

  • I guess I don't get it...I know I'm having a girl and I bought her blue stuff...what does it matter?
  • I see nothing wrong with that. I would keep it.

DD's most favorite thing in world is a blue elephant...
