Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

boobs fail

I've gone from getting around 6oz in my one pump to around 3oz tonight all in a week.  Luckily, DS has started drinking whole milk, but I am kind of sad knowing this stage will be over soon.  I really wanted to keep him on BM until flu season was over, but my boobs just aren't cooperating and I just can't go back to pumping multiple times a day.

Re: boobs fail

  • Could it be your pump? I haven't pumped for awhile but I remember some ladies talking about how they had to replace a part when they noticed a sharp decrease like that.

  • You've done great making it so far! My boobs began to fail in a very similar fasion when DD was only 6 mo old. Regardless of when it happens though, I know it is upsetting. My boobs did die a slow death and I was able to tweek an extra couple months (w/ supplimenting) out of them. Maybe you can too with the assistance of whole milk.

I don't think so, but I am going to replace a few parts when I get home tomorrow just in case.  I'm guessing it's more because I've only been pumping once a day for over a month now.

  • The decrese could be a number of things.

    1. Since you are only pumping one or two times a day per week your boobs are adjusting to the lack of stimulation and will not produce the amount of milk you want because of that. Just know if you still pump a few times in the week your body still will make milk. The only way it would completely stop if you stop taking milk out either by baby or by pump or manual expression.

    2. Has AF showed up yet? It could be your body is returning back to pre baby hormone levels and "returning back to normal".

    3. Since the introduction of solid food, baby starts to wean, as you are replacing the milk with something else. As they get older and the more we put food in front of them the less they are going to the boob for actual need of something to fill their tummies.

Just know that every little ounce of Breast Milk will protect your child for the rest of his life.

I have been trying to wean off the Pump myself  (I do pump before during and a bit after work). I might do it after Christmas, but as my DD continues to eat more and more solids I know its just a matter of time before she weans her self off my boob.

Just know that if you have a second one, you will have a great supply!
