Anyone pull a stomach muscle when they were pregnant?

I have this horrible cough.  I'm on a cocktail of meds right now, but the coughing doesn't seem to be going away.  Anyway, I'm coughing so hard I think I've pulled a couple of muscles in my abdomen.  Besides heat and Tylenol, what else would you do to relieve the pressure?

  • I think that's the only thing you can do for it, maybe try to rest a little bit too.

  • I pulled an intercostal muscle when I had bronchitis last year, and it was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced (and it took weeks to heal).  And I wasn't pregnant.

Right now, my abdominal muscles have separated.  My doctor told me to wear my pregnancy support belt, not to lift anything over 5 or 10 pounds, and to generally avoid using my abs (so no exercise, etc.).  I can't say that any of these things helps relieve pressure, but it's a start, I guess.

  • I would ask your doctor if its ok to apply heat. Ge erally when pg, you should never apply heat to the abs or stomach area. tylenol may be your only source of relief. hope you feel  better soon.

  • I pulled a muscle when i was pregnant with brady (not the twins) and was told only tyenol and heat. If it was really bad they said I could get RX for percocet if was really unbareable.

Also wheni was pregnant with the twins I was having contractions that were very painful and L&D would be heated towels on my big old belly! It helped

I'm sorry to hear about your ab muscles:(   That sounds excruciating.

I asked my OB about the heat, she said 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off was fine:)
