BLW - how often do you offer solids?

Those of you doing BLW - how often are you offering solids?  We started right at 6 months & I'm only offering every other day or so. Sometimes every 3rd day.  DS isn't incredibly interrested & seems perfectly content to just continue to nurse.  I'm wondering if I should offer more often though.  I don't want to hinder his exploration of solid food, but at the same time, if I'm following his cues correctly, he's just not into it right now.  Has anyone delayed solids until 7 months or longer?

  • we waited past 6mos to make an initial offer. she was still a little wobbly when sitting solo, and wasn't showing much interest. i'd say we weren't regularly offering or seeing real interest from her until about 7.5 months.

when she was ready, it was clear in both her unassisted sitting and her interest. she was off to the races, eating from then on.

we did a hybrid of BLW and purees at home. puress for us mostly meant soft mashed foods like sweet potato or avocado that she mouthed of her hands or our fingers. a total mess :) after that, we mostly did BLW at home and purees for DCP until quite soon after when she switched to finger foods.

i'd say it sounds like you're following his lead.

  • We started offering at dinnertime just before 6 months (since that is generally the only time of day we're sitting down eating a meal together).  My DS really took off with it, so we started offering at breakfast as well because DD and I are always eating breakfast at the same time.  Makes him feel included and he's trying/eating a lot of things.

My DD was totally disinterested in food until she was about 10 months (and we werent doing BLW with her . . . we were trying to spoon food in her mouth).  Didn't go up to 2 meals (attempts) a day with her 'til about 10 months, probably.

  • DS always sat at the table with us at dinnertime. At 6 months we started putting food on his tray instead of toys. So he was consistentl offered one meal a day. He didn't show a lot of interest. He would get other offerings when it was convenient to sit him at the table and he wanted to ear lunch with his daycare friends at 7 months. By 10 months he finally showed real interest in eating and we had ramped up to 3 meals. DD showed interest at 7.5 months but still wasn't doing 3 meals until about 10 months.
